Wanted to get one together for this year's Classic and this one is shaping up nicely. Here are a couple of teaser pictures from yesterday. It's not fully tillered, have it out to about 24". Needs a little tweaking before full draw. This bow comes from a blank that Mike Scott gifted me when I visited them last summer. Really a nice piece of aged Osage with some character and a hole in what is looking like the lower limb. Right now it's set to finish above 50#, so I'll be sanding the bow down to finish just below 50#. I want 47-48 for shooting. I'll be posting more pictures as I finish the bow.

Looking very good Steve

I like that profile! You've got about 4 weeks to finish it up.

Good looking rig, Steve-O.

Looks great and I love the curves. You don't see too many lookin' like that.
-
Good looking braced picture of an osage bow.Cool color on the back too.
-
Looking good!!
-
Very nice. Assume the limbs are stained? Also is that a turkey in the first pic?
-
Nice looking recurve, Steve. I don't remember many osage bows coming from your shop. Apparently it worked out well. :OK
-
Looking nice!
-
Classy looking lines on that one Steve. Hope to see it at the Classic.
-
Great looking bow Steve. All this Classic talk is starting to get to me!
-
You know where it is, Goat. ;)

PatB - I haven't done too many Osage bows over the years probably less then 10 total. It's been awhile since I've made one having been focused on other parts of life and hobby over the last year. But, the other projects are done, my responsibilities are being well managed and I've really found some new ground with my own self. I'm falling back in love with bow making.
DV IN MN - The back is just dark with age. This had been a blank left high and dry for several years. I've just sanded it smooth and taken out any bigger nicks on the back and then the rest has goldened up being tillered. That turkey out in the field is my dog Louie. He is often kind of a turkey!
Appreciate the positive comments guys. Look forward to seeing many of you in TN and enjoying your company this year.
Goat - hope to have a chance to meet you again sometime down the road.
Best to you all.

Looking good Steve, look forward to seeing it live and in action in a few weeks. :) Hope you can make it back someday Goat you fit right in. :)

I tried something different yesterday evening and cut strips of sheep hide for string silencers. They are doing the job and I like the way they look but I'm not convinced on their making it over the long haul. It seems like they want to let go of the fibers? Anyone have any experience on this?

Nice looking bow happening there. Arvin

Lookin' good :)

I'm feeling pretty good about the tiller. The lower limb has the knot hole and a kink so I don't think I want a lot more working limb where it looks a little stiff. Debating. Wanting to stay a little stiff at that side knot in the upper limb. Suppose another scrape or two, perhaps.
It is shooting great and without sound. I'm grouping carbon arrows on a pie plate at 20 paces repeatedly, so I'm happy.
Working on a set of cane arrows and figuring on weaving a basket quiver out of coconut palm fronds for this year. Be something new.
-
Glad to here your working on some cane arrows and getting rid of those carbons.....:)

Got a couple hundred shots through the bow and I'm pleased. A touch over 50#@28". I used Bison fur for silencers and they are doing the job, I like their look. No shelf, after really shooting a lot more traditional recurve I'm enjoying shooting off my hand again. Rubbed it down in beeswax. I like it. Feels kind of raw and natural. Osage knocks. Nice and simple.
Got my cane arrows being fletched up and weaving a basket quiver. Posting that under Primitive Skills.
-
That's a darn nice bow! I love beeswax for a finish. Looking forward to seeing it in person next week!
