Needing some advise on an Osage stave I have. I've taken down to a nice ring for the back, ntn is 61", my draw length is 25".
I am trying something a little different, right now I have it at 1 3/4" wide all the way down till 8" from each tip, then tapering to 1/2" nocks for now, will narrow
later. This is a white wood design. If I proceed with this design I will just need to make it thinner, correct? Shooting for 53@24.
Only 2 pin knots on upper limb. Some wavy here and there, but nice stave. Rings are dark and med/wide.
I'm trying this design to make the beefiest bow I can make. Any advise? I did add a hardwood handle because I wanted to get to a certain ring, I also like a
solid 1 1/2" handle.

If I was making that bow I wouldn't go that wide. I'd start at 1.5" and maybe take it down a little narrower as I go along.

1-3/4" wide it will be thinner alright, might be able to see through it😲

You will get handshock because the limbs will be over weight.
I would make it 1 1/4" wide. Osage likes to be narrow and the old saying of thicker is quicker holds true.

Design layouts can seem like a grope in the dark excersize with woods a person is not familiar with.Osage is such a well balanced denser wood more so[tension/compression]then practically all other white woods except maybe plum,and I'm told that plum is considered a first string wood rather too.Starting out wide enough is always a good idea with unfamiliar woods,but in this case though you are plenty too much wide for osage I would say too.
Your expectation bow length and draw length sound pretty reasonable.Over building is good to a point but carrying it that wide so close to the tips will not benefit you much in durability.Sounds like you got a really nice piece of wood.Good luck with it.

Yep it will be thin alright, like others have said I wouldn't go near that wide, 1 1/2 maybe, a lot more risk for getting the tiller off and belly frets when you go that thin even with Osage. :)

Like the others said, if you wanna leave that thing that long - make it more narrow.
If you wanna leave it that wide - cut it to 52 or 50" . way enough for your drawlength!

What about the stretched out Andaman-Holmegaard, past page 112 on TBB4? I guess only the mid-inner limbs would be that wide and would quickly become very narrow and stiff, with the center 10" non-bending..?
try the mass principle in TBB4 too
