Well, I didn't catch any catfish today, but I did get some good shots of my new Apple bow. I used Badger's no set tillering method on this one and it really paid off. It's very well shot in, as my brother-in-law and I spent all day yesterday shooting arrows through it. It's quite fast and very light in the hand. Here's some info...
64" ntn
60# at 27"
heat-treated belly
ebony overlays and inlay
Beadman's brain-tanned deer hide on the handle
Oh yeah, I had to prop up my camera/phone and set a timer for the FD pics so the angle is a little funny on the second one. The first is not all the way to 27".
Thanks as always for checking it out. :)

You're making this look easy :o Great bow!

That's a very fine looking shooter in every way.Tiller is spot on.Nice job on the handle & tips too.I like knowing people that have back up plans for success and a good time.I quess you'd call them resourceful.

Nice looking bow

Really nice

Very nice looking bow. You don't see many Apple bows posted on here.
-
Real nice bow! We were talking about applewood, crabapple and cherry, the other day.

Nice! :OK

Thanks you guys. I'd be lost in the dark without all of you. There's no better place to learn from folks who really know how to make um.
Ed, I forgot to mention that the circle strike plate is a tribute to you. Back up plans are key, but sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock and turn those... (--) into... :BB Thanks for everything :)

Nice looking bow Jeff! Cheers- Brendan

That is a good job on a unique wood. How do you like its performance, compared to whatever?
-
Oh that is a really nice bow! Awesome bend and nice handle shape!
How does apple perform in relation to some other woods? I have a dry set of apple billets so maybe I will make that my next project;-)
-
absolute killer. now you gotta get one making some stone points for all them killer bows
-
Nice bow Jeff, great way to spend the day if the fish aren't biting. Heck great way to spend the day even if they are. Apple is on my list to. Nice thinking on the full draw pictures, they turned out at least as good as most of the ones I have someone else take.

Thanks Brendan. :)
Steve and Leon, to me I would rank apple right up there in the top 10 of all the "white woods." Similar to plum in it's workability and strength in tension, but not quite as good in compression. A little heat treating of the belly goes a long way with that though. It's nice and snappy as well. I owe the performance on this one to Badger's no-set tillering approach and Marc's methodology for using dry heat.
Blitz, thanks man. You're absolutely right, I need to learn how to make arrows bad! You can't have a bow without an arrow, and my experience with bows is way out of balance with making arrows. Thank you for taking the time to send me that PDF. I'll definitely be checking it out soon. ;)
Thanks BJ. I had the camera balanced between some cans of bug spray and a small tackle box and it fell over while counting down before taking the picture more than once. :NN
