Welp, I took a couple year break from forums and recently wandered my way back. In that time I obviously haven't posted a bow in as many years (although I've sure built plenty). So for my return I present my latest personal bow. It is 54" long Rawhide backed Yew, veneered with Bull Snake Skins. The tips are live-edge Pronghorn Antelope, the grip is Beaver tail. If you follow me at all, you know I shoot a short draw and this one is 60# @ 23inches. She scoots an arrow pretty quick for a short draw bow; 168fps with a 580gr arrow. The bottom limb has a little wonk to it which is pretty fun. Also, it is adorned with my turquoise Arrowhead inlay makers mark. Thanks for welcoming me back- Ryan

Stunning, how have you done that illustrated panel on the transition? is that a rawhide patch you've painted on to?

That is a beauty all around. Love the detail and I am baffled as to how your beaver tail handle wrap came out so smooth.
-
That's an incredible bow. Your detail work is really impressive!
What tool did you use to carve the outline of the arrowhead into the wood? Did you crush the turquoise to put in it?
-
That's a looker! Great attention to detail and finish work.
-
Nice work! Beautiful bow
-
Gorgeous bow! Everything about it is great, but I really like the arrow head with how clean and bright it is. I hope you decide to sit k around for a while again.

Awesome work on that one Ryan. That kind of power out of such a short maneuverable bow is amazing. Sweet job on the finish work also.
-
Very nice bow Ryan, thanks for sharing it with us. I like a short draw to.

Nice looking bow, Ryan.
-
thanks very much everyone. Greatly appreciated.
Dirthas- I use an engraving tool to cut out the arrowhead and fill it with crushed turquoise and clear epoxy
RatherBin- the whole bow is rawhide backed, I just left the skins short a couple inches and had my wife (she does some really cool artwork see pics below of another bow she painted) on the "blank canvas"
Carson- Yeah, beavertails suck to do. It took me a good solid hour if not more. Soak, glue, pull, and keep maneuvering. They look great but they are a bear.

Lots of artistic talent at your dinner table. Great work, both of you
-
Wow, how cool is that to have a wife who is an amazing artist AND is willing to adorn your work!
I'm too curious not to ask, what type of engraving tool to you use? Is it a power tool of some kind? If it's your special secret I totally get it if you'd rather not say. :)
-
thanks Upstate. No problem. It's a dremel engraver, nothing too special
-
Ryan, it is so good to see you posting again. Awesome craftsmanship as always, I don't know why I would think differently. Love the gopher snake(AZ) bull snake(OK) got couple of those stashed away. John
