Finished this bighorn sheep bow recently. 46" long, 62# draw @ 27". I used a trophy set of Rocky My bighorns over 30" around the curl for this one. 140 grams of processed sinew on the back with Montana rattler to protect it. 3 ply elk sinew string. I've lost track of how many of these I have made but this is about #30 I think. About 1 year from start to finish. Top limb is a little longer. My favorite so far. Because of the materials they are made out of the bow weighs a lot (19.3oz) and that affects arrow speed, but the reflex, overdraw and heavy draw weight make up for that. I also used a little less sinew towards the tips that I made as narrow as I dared. I was happy this bow was shooting 8 gpp arrows an average of 185 fps. 9.5 gpp just a few fps slower. I think it would be hard to make a bighorn bow this long weigh much more than 60#. I tried to remove as little horn as possible to get it to this weight. I used heat to remove a bit of the reflex to make the bow more stable.
The quiver for this bow was made by Norbert Kohlruss of travels-far trading. He is the best replicator of bead and quill work I have seen.
Thanks for looking
Chuck

Very cool bow, Chuck. Don't see many big horn sheep bows ...except the ones you build. Well done. :OK
-
That's really something, fantastic work, I like that you've gotten such a long draw on it too.
-
Another amazing bow from you Chuck those bows are really a thing of beauty !
-
Beautiful work Chuck. I'm always amazed at how much draw length you get from these short bows.
-
Very nice bow Chuck, those trophy horns wouldn't look that good hanging on a wall. Beautiful in all details and bends.

I really enjoying seeing these bows. Great work!
Where do you find all these sheep horns? I've searched craiglist all over and cant seem to find anything.
-
Thanks everyone. Eric, I look everywhere. Ebay, craigslist. I try to never pay more than $500. I've probably increased the value of these horns a little taking so many old mounts off the market.
-
Thanks Chuck. I will continue my search. Maybe you have already took them all. By the number of horn bows you've made, the supply may be done for.

I'm trying out Imgur for posting. I tried to get this front photo to begin with but photobucket halted me.
-
And it worked! Imgur is better/easier for resizing photos than photobucket ever was.

That's a beautiful bow.
