Wouldn't miss it. I'm in.

I'll have to come up with another fun design idea. I kinda liked doing a fantasy/magical style one last year. I still have a design for a swiss army style one with interchangeable fore shafts. Hmmm, decisions, decisions.

How was it packaged?
If it was sent priority mail it should have insurance. I usually end up sending priority mail, most of the time there's no difference in cost. I usually send them in a almost indestructible container.

Even if it had insurance, good luck on getting reimbursed for it.  You have to provide a receipt showing how much you purchased the item for.

Post by: bjrogg on August 22, 2017, 07:46:06 am
Guess I never had to try to collect Clint. I was always told my package was insured for $100 if I remember right. It may have been $50 now not sure. If I wanted to insure it for more it cost more. I was told you just got what it was insured for.

Title: Re: Arrow Trade
Post by: osage outlaw on August 22, 2017, 08:07:39 am
The postmaster at our local PO told me not to bother adding extra insurance if it was something I made or supplies.  If I can't prove what it cost they won't reimburse me if it's lost or damaged.
Title: Re: Arrow Trade
Post by: bjrogg on August 22, 2017, 09:27:59 am
Interesting Clint, I'll have to ask mine again. When I use to ship my raw furs UPS years ago, I asked them. I told them I wouldn't know what they were worth till I sold them and if they were ruined in shipping they wouldn't be worth anything. They told me they were worth whatever I insured them for. Things may have changed and like I said I never did have to try collecting a claim.

Sorry about your arrow Eddie.

I was testing one of the arrows I'm sending off, missed the target and the stone point hit a cast iron sink. The point just snapped in half but didn't come loose from the pitch glue with sinew wrap.
Oh well, time to mount another point.   :OK   )P(

Post by: mullet on August 22, 2017, 04:14:57 pm
It was in a homemade triangle box with a gazillion plastic grocery bags. It was broke right where it said,"don't bend" :).

Postal Service insurance is worthless for what we make. It took Chris Cade almost a year to get reimbursed for a hand built Flintlock that showed up with a broken stock and fork lift tracks across it.

Mullet, That makes me feel sick. I tried to make sure it was well padded and labeled. I'm sorry, It looks like it was mishandled on purpose. Broken in 2 places ! Is the point ruined also ?
My wife mailed it out for me, I'll ask her if it was insured.

Title: Re: Arrow Trade
Post by: mullet on August 22, 2017, 07:47:29 pm
Wildcat, don't worry about it, it's not a big deal. You had it packed real good but it took a direct hit. And, yes the point is missing the tip, a wing tip and snapped at the base. I can make a nice triangle point out of it, though.

Insurance is not gonna be worth the effort unless you have documentation, ( which I do for mine), that you get $50 for your arrows.

I'm good.

I asked my wife last nite about insurance. She said she did not put it on, it was almost $4.00 to ship it and $50.00 insurance would have been a bit over $8.00 so she did not do it.

The arrow shaft is from a Christmas trade several years ago. Its some type of cane - not sure. The feathers are Turkey and Crow. I found the feathers in our field, striped them and glued them to the shaft. The point was nice, I think its one Trapper Rob knapped out, not positive though.  I'm not as skilled as Rob when it comes to that fine work.

Got an awesome arrow from Mullet. I have plenty of cane, but this is the first bamboo arrow for me. Amazing the amount of spine you get from such a narrow shaft. Straight, well made with a well made legal hunting stone tip.
Thanks Eddie.

I'd like to post a picture. I've always used photobucket but they changed their sharing policy. Any suggestions for reducing photos to a size I can post. Is there a new site you guys use?

Thanks Pat, hopefully I don't need it. I packed it so it should survive almost anything. Unless they lose it should be safe. Just figured for the $3.00 I'd at least feel like I tried to cover my bases. Never had to file a claim yet, but one thing that might help is small town Post Office. At least it's got people that will try to help me. One is my cousin who really appreciates the Primitive stuff I make.

Thanks flungonin, I'll be watching for it.
Patrick I sent mine out, but I did take some pictures first in case my recipient can't post them. I'm hoping to see some nice unbroken arrow pictures here soon.

Bjrogg, I'll keep an eye out for it. I love getting these arrows. I'm in the process of making an arrow display rack, It will hold the trade bows I have and the arrows. I really wish I had a camera so I could post pictures of it. Another thing - I will keep the tube for next year, lesson learned.

Ill be finishing up the arrow this weekend. Been out elk hunting.....Dont want to talk about the results, still have 2 weeks left.
Just have to add the crest paint and fletch it. It will be as close as I can get to a Northern Paiute arrow....with a Paiute arrowhead a friends grandma found years ago. I'm really looking forward to receiving the arrow from GUTSHOT, I'm really excited that you found an arrowhead.

Well mine is shipped! Dakota, look for a 3 foot pvc tube to show up on Friday.  Look for,  "open this end," then follow instructions to remove the arrow.
I made a hunting arrow.  I needed to make some for myself so I just made an extra for you!  Hope you like it and you get a chance to burry it in between some ribs on a big ol buck!

Work has been hectic lately and I kinda lost track of the date. Mine will ship tomorrow. It doesn't help that my arrow was rather involved. I went for the swiss army arrow with several interchangeable fore shafts.

I got my trade arrow from flungonin today. I really like it Steve Thank You. I'm hoping to get some pictures tomorrow. I'm thinking it's a rivercane shaft? A nice sharp stone point. I like the looks of the stone. Have to tell me what kind it is. A two feather fletch. I'm not sure what type of feathers these are either, but my wife sure likes em. Thanks again flungonin, I'll try to post some pictures as soon as I can.

I have sent my creation to penderbender up in BC Canada.  Who knows when it will arrive?  Post office said a week - - but Mr. bender implied it is always an adventure getting packages.

I have also received a real nice arrow from PD.  I will post some pics in the other thread soon.
