There is going to be a Total Solar Eclipse here in the United States Monday the 21st of August.
It is going to cross the whole nation from Oregon to South Carolina.
Here in Decatur Alabama we are going to have a 95+% Eclipse.
Anyone going to be on the line of Totality?

For roughly 2 minutes. Local municipal planners are planning for huge crowds.

Here in Brevard will have total eclipse for 2 1/2 minutes or so. We already have our glasses and white squirrel/eclipse T Shirts. Rumor says we'll have 50,000 visitors so we're staying home to view it from here. :OK

I wonder if the Marshall Bow Hunters are opening up the range and campground for the 'Total Eclipse Shoot'. It would be epic, in my humble opinion.

I know that the town of Marshall Mo. is planning all kinds of stuff starting that weekend. It's going to be 99.7% here at my place but the wife wants it ALL.. . ;)
So we'll be headed to Weston Mo. with some friends for a tour of the distillery there and then their eclipse party. Probably a "moonshine" themed cocktail or two as well...? :OK

I hear Hopkinsville Ky is 100% and being talked about having150-200K people there to witness.
I'm about 3hrs away to the east don't think I want to get in that mess Hop Town has I think about 40,000 people. it will be a mess.

Yep, and apparently ever one need to come see it. We have gone full staff 24/7 in the OR at the hospital starting tomorrow to prepare for all the insanity. Can't wait for it to be over

There will be another total solar eclipse April 8th, 2024. The pathway crosses Mexico into TX, then up through KY/TN through Ohio, NY, New England.
The trajectory paths for the two eclipse cross right over TN/KY. Kinda interesting...

We are going to be around 95% in southern Indiana too. Don't think I want to drive down with the masses for an extra 5%.

Long range forecast for our area is saying rain and thunderstorms now for that day. :(
Well, at least we'll have the distillery tour and the tasting room after... ;)

I am heading several hours north to Idaho and cancelling my first day classes to go see it. I hope the weather cooperates.

Estimated 500,000 people headed up I-25 through Colorado for Wyoming to see this. Must be powerful medicine! I got to see one in the early 90s, so I will stay home and take 95-98% if I can get some appropriate glasses, or punch a pinhole in a big sheet of cardboard. Colo. State Patrol and most law agencies are full staffing to handle the viewers and keep the traffic moving. Wyoming only has about 600-700k people on a regular day, this could be culture shock for them! 8) >:D

I saw a partial eclipse once. It'd have to be a total and very dark one before anyone would want to see me running around nude.lol. Probably just be another partial for me again not sure how many percent we are here.

We got a message from school last night. They are letting the kids out of school at noon that day so they can observe the eclipse.

I would think the schools would use this eclipse as a learning situation and keep kids in school.

Our local school district declared a holiday and there would be no classes that day. Opinions vary why it was done, one was they didn't want the hassle of keeping track of the young 'uns during the eclipse, another was it is supposed to be family oriented experience, another was that an adjacent district called off classes so our teachers wanted the day off as well.

Schools are for teaching. This once in a lifetime experience should be included in the curriculum.

So the parents have to stay home from work to be sure their kids don't stare at the sun? At least at school they can build up to the event and teach proper safety precautions as part of their education along with the geographic, astronomic, astrological and historical facts and beliefs of such an event.

Bill you are correct on Hopkinsville,Ky. It's the place that the eclipse will be 100% and all hotels campgrounds are booked from SOMERSET- land between the lakes. I'm 2hrs east of it thinking of driving the family over early that morning. I'm hearing people from all over the world will be in the bluegrass state for it.

You are correct. The school didn't want to be liable if the kids stared at the sun and burned their eyes out.

Have them all sign a paper at a gym hall meeting of all of the students saying they realize the potential danger of staring at the sun during an eclipse.Then they would be duely & verifiably notified.

I'm almost expecting to see lawyers commercials on TV starting Tuesday for suing those glasses for watching the eclipse.

Two local school districts have backed away from the 'event viewing' since the districts bought the student's eclipse glasses from Amazon and the districts received the Amazon letter saying the glasses may not be safe. So the little miscreants will be in regular school session on Monday.
Watched the news last night and there was a segment on the long lines buying eclipse glasses.

I'm here in southern Iowa and from what they say we should be able to see a 95% exposure or whatever they call it.We've got glasses.Robin says it should go by around 11:30 AM monday or tomorrow.Problem is forecast is for rain so it could be very well over cast here.

Ya it is crazy around here also, schools are closed, also all government agency's except EMT even Fort Campbell is closing all gates except one and everyone, or almost everyone that works there is off. Of course I work for a Beer company and we are wide open. ;) :) Supposed to be clear and hot here today, a few scattered clouds but mostly clear so I guess for all that have traveled that is a good thing. We have had over 4,000 from Japan show up in Hendersonville 15 miles North of Nashville last week and expecting 2000,000 in Clarksville and 5000,000 in Nashville, go figure. :)

It's max right now about 75-80% here. It's noticeably dim like evening. We have a thin cloud cover. It doesn't stop the view but I think it makes it darker.
Through the welding glass it looks just like the moon but you see all the phases in an hour :D

Just viewed.. Bout 70% southeastern Alberta.. It has a evening type dimness here.. Fellow came form next shop over with welding helmet.. Looks cool.. Hey it's lunch time

I don't need no stinking eclipse viewing glasses! One welding hood is not quite enough shade but my self darkening hood and the lens out of another hood is perfect.

My step kids got fleeced buying eclipse glasses on line that turned out to be not certified. One local school bought them for all their students and found out none of the glasses they bought were certified.
The coverage is about half here in Florence Al at 1:00 central time. It is supposed to be 95-98% at 1:26.

Second time I've seen it. Used welders hood but I didn't stare at it for a hour. Could see it good. Tried to take picture bite couldn't make it work. Like the picture of your dog Clint

We had totality here but had to view it, on and off through the edge of a thunderhead. Pretty cool anyway. Just the darkness was eerie.

Sweeeet ecliptical tiller!.Was out shooting arrows as the eclipse went by at 95%.That 5% left the slight top rim of the sun shining yet.Noticeably fainter light overall.Felt slightly cooler here too.Saw it between intermittent cloud cover.
History has been made.....yea!!!!

Just finished it here, pretty cool, total lasted about 2 minutes. Birds stoped moving, crickets started and cooled a lot. You can look at it when it is in total and it really looked wild. You could also see the stars. Guess it was worth cutting my nap short. Pappy

I asked my wife if she saw the eclipse? She said no you have to look at that at night.lol I don't think she quite understands the science behind it yet.
Clint that's what I was thinking. Looks like your dog was enjoying the eclipse all the same.
Pappy glad you cut your nap short. A total eclipse would be worth having someone wake me up for.

Well, that was super cool. Heavy rain this a.m. lots of clouds, then the sun came out and we had our eclipse, street lights came on, cicadas chirping, and then it was over. Wonder if the t-shirts go on sale now? :)

Ha ha! Post of the month! It was about 80% here. It didn't get as dark as I expected. The neat thing was that cicadas started making noise and moths started coming out.

We had about 92-95% here. Got cooler and sort of sunset like. Made a viewer with a pinhole in a cardboard and a piece of paper. Burnt some sage, and watched the totality on the tube! Heard traffic was 15-20 mph out of Casper, WY afterwards! Next try Texas in '24! Maybe enough time to find some glasses >:D!

Next one is 2024, and according to path, we can see one in Dallas, Little Rock and a few other major cities.

My wife has a first cousin that lives in Palestine Tx.
The long term plan is for us to drive out there and stay a few days and see the 2024 eclipse.
We will have to travel 60 or 70 miles closer to Dallas to see the Total Eclipse.
Long ways off yet.

I think Toronto will see a total eclipse in 2024
