Title: 2017 ARROW SWAP - SHOW N' TELL
Post by: PEARL DRUMS on August 28, 2017, 07:36:04 pm
Figured we may as well start a thread for received goods  (-P

Here's mine:

Two arrows from some PEB character???? Anyway. One has a sweet spiral fletch and a built in bopper head, very cool and will go on a bunny stomp or two this winter. I believe the shaft is maple. The second is a two-fletch shoot shaft arrow with a stone tip, very cool as well. Thanks buddy I love them, that makes a 1/4 dozen for me  (AT)

I had a close call with USPS, as you can see.....woooo...that was close.

Nice arrows Pearly but I thought this was the 2017 arrow trade  ???

I'll be shipping mine in PVC.  That's 2 cardboard tubes damaged so far in this trade.  Glad your arrows weren't damaged.

Pearlie, glad they made it OK. that was a used tube with a kink already in it. but they got there.   :OK
The fluflu shaft is black walnut, turned by Ken75 years ago. He had left the one square end and I just removed the corners.  The other is sourwood and I can't remember who knapped the point.

It's a Chippewa replica. I recently started making more blunts. Hickory. Because of the large head it is spined about 70#. I found that spine worked best for my 52# bow.

Your arrow(or my arrow as it were) arrived today safe and sound. You did an excellent job with the packaging. You can't beat 2" pvc with both ends capped. Feel free to post your pics. It will save me the time of having to do it, which is appreciated due to my current work schedule.

Thanks for posting these pics, Aaron.
I received these 3 arrows from Warpath (G-Monee) G told me that the arrow in the middle, with the black and red cresting is from a bunch he made for a movie but I can't remember which movie. Maybe he chime in.
Two of the shafts are dowels, not sure what wood and one is a cane of some kind. The movie arrow has a trade point, the cane arrow has a forged or cast head and the other has a wood head. Very nice arrows for my collection.
Thanks G.   :OK

Nice arrows everyone. Good to see some nice pictures. Speaking of pictures I'm going to try to post some for Wildcat Hunter of the trade arrow I sent him. I'm still using p.b. and saving it to my phone library so I ll see if it still works.

The arrow is a Red Osier shaft I've been shooting all year. It's pretty kinky but a real good shooter. I took off the glue on target point and halvted on a novaculite stone point I knapped with my pine pitch glue. Then I used white tail sinew to wrap point and shaft. On the tail end, wild turkey primaries hand striped and burned sinew wrapped front and back with a spiral sinew wrap to hold em on good. Sinew wrapped self notch and my normal Bjrogg markings.
Glad you like it Wildcat

Got my trade arrow from flungonin yesterday. I've been busy, getting home late and leaving early. Got just enough of a break this morning for a couple pictures.
Really like the arrow Steve. I'm guessing rivercane shaft? Nice sharp stone point, I like this material. You'll have to tell me what kinda stone this is I'd like to try it. Maybe Georgetown? Two feather fletch. I don't know what variety of bird it's from, but my wife sure likes it and so do I.
Thanks again flungonin I really do like it. Gotta run but here's some pictures.

Well guys those sure are some nice arrows!

I finally got my arrow opened from High Desert. Its a very nice arrow with goose fletching and what looks to me to be a glass knapped point. Thank you very much, it will go nicely with my PA arrow collection. Here is a few pics i took of it.
I should mention that it was lucky to be in one piece, the first pick will show the box damage.

Dakota Kid asked me to post the pictures of the arrow I sent him.
The arrow I made was just a solid hunting arrow just like the ones I made fore myself. It is made out of bamboo garden stakes from Lowes. Charokee two fletch with wild turkey tail feathers, self knock with a bamboo skewer inserted in before cutting the knock. (Thanks for the Idea Pearly!) The point is one of my first hand full of points, it's made out of milk glass. I inserted a piece of brass rod in the shaft behind the point to get the point weight up. If I remember right its about 135g with the rod and point together. This brought the arrow to right at 525g over all.  I halfted it with pine pitch and back strap sinew with a little hide glue on the sinew. The shaft was smoked with a candle and burnished with beeswax. It show very well for me along with my other arrows i made for this hunting season.
Dakota if you would like to add your comments that would be cool!
Here is a few pics.

Lebfishhunt, the arrow head is northern Paiute found east of Bend, Oregon. It's most likely obsidian from Glass buttes area.

This is the Swiss Army arrow I received from Dakota kid.  I love it DK, you did an awesome job. Thank you very much

It includes 5 different foreshafts: a field point that also accepts razor blades to convert to a turkey guillotine, a blunt made from a large tooth of some sort, a nice sharp stone hunting point, a barbed stone war point, and my favorite, a split cane fishing/bird point with bone tips.

I'm glad you like it. It was fun to make. I just realized I forgot to send my standard description letter with the arrow. Pretty sure I forgot to sign it as well. I've been working too hard and sleeping too little.

The shaft is a garden stake tonken bamboo. The wood fore shafts are ash and the bird/fish point is more tonken. The cresting is hand painted oil enamel. It has a simple self nock and turkey wing fletchings one of which is dyed with food coloring/ hot vinegar.

The blunt you mistook for a tooth is actually the end of a yearling deer's leg bone (fibula or tibia). They work perfectly if you can find one small enough.

The war point is texas chert and the hunting point is keokuk I think. If it's not, it's flint ridge.

I had made an incendiary fore shaft but realized shipping it would require extra hassle and cash. So sadly I decided to omit it.

Once again, I'm glad you like it.

BJ those were river cane shafts from Bills place. I ended up finishing two while I was there and gave them to Mike (stix) as a gift. They both were in the 50-55# range and flew great from my 50# bow.

Heres the arrow I got from Mullet. Like nothing I have. I have plenty of cane but no bamboo arrows. I think buffalo nock, goose feathers and bamboo shaft with a well made legal hunting point. As strait as a .. arrow. Sinew and thread wrap. Amazing how narrow the shaft is and still has a 50# spine. I have 10 of these bamboo shafts in my garage. This may inspire me to use them. Thanks Mullet!

Glad you like them, Ed.  I matched them so you can shoot the target arrow, and then if you get the urge to hunt with the stone point, it should still shoot about the same.

Jeff makes some amazing arrows! I'm lucky enough to own some myself.
I still have them Jeff,  I only hunt with them, I am in the process of replacing the stone points that I put on.  I managed to drop them and break every point.  But I've learned to knapp a little and im putting my own points on this time.
