I finally got my bow finished for this hunting season. It's KY coffeetree, 67"ntn, a tree that fell a couple of years ago down the river. I cut and split the staves on the riverbank and I think I gave Dazn Bear some of that tree.
I put antler tip overlays from a shed from a giant I missed in 2011, cut in shelf and moose hide strike plate and shelf.
It's 48# at 28", heat treated the belly and have had very little set. I slightly trapped the back and sealed the back with TB3 after sketching some critters with a sharpie, belly and sides with tung oil.
It hits hard and shoots true.

It looks awesome. 8) I've always wanted to try KCT. Do we get an FD pic? O:)
-
That's amazing Joe!!!......I was just looking at that stave thinking .........that's the next one I'm working on..... should be good and dried by now.
That braced profile looks awesome and what cool graphics on the back...................Buttttt you know we need to see a full draw before we can say it's a bow..:) :). Also give a first timer on KCT a little help and provide the width and length. I know you have made a few KCT bows before.
Thanks

My copying from photobucket was messed up, everything was doubled. It was like I was drinking, or needed to be drinking... and ya'll were nipping at my heels!
-
That's some purty grain in those fads and handle.....but that one is pretty small? for your standards isn't it ? :)
DBar
-
His body makes his antlers look small.. :D
Yes, KCT is beautiful wood, it hinges easily, and will ding up. I plan to put skins on this, but that would delay my "date"!
KY Afield is doing a show about making this bow, Chad shot it some when I first got it ready to shoot in, he shot it well. He's ready to build his own..
-
That's great Joe....Good for you, Chad Miles needs to come to Moon Tree or a KTBA shoot. It will be a great show for Ky Afield wish I could be apart of it, be glad to help if you need any.

I told him about Moontree, I think he might be interested. He was ooing and awing over your special arrows. I may just send him to you to learn something, I'm just a newbie.
-
Yea..... I was admiring that arr'a in your pics....:)
Till next time buddy,

It's dang hard to get a decent FD pic! Torque the bow any and it looks warped! I need a decent photographer! I'd ask Hedgeapple but he'd want me to dress funny.... :D
-
Hell I'll model for ya... I've even got a real beard :) .......I've seen some of your photography and it's pretty darn good.

Great looking bow Joe. KCT is one I haven't tried yet. Good luck with that bruiser. I'll be watching for the harvest pictures. When will your segment air on KY Afield?
-
Nice bow! KCT is also known as Catalpa? Good luck on the hunt, those antlers look fine, just the angle he turned his head, probably >:D. Like the way the grip accents the grain!

That's a dandy bow there wapiti1997, that should wake you up in the morning. ;)

Bill, they filmed 3 different days, have plenty to edit for the show. I'll let you know when it airs, it will also be on youtube and fb.
-
That is a very nice bow. Well tillered
-
Good job on that KCT bow looks like a real hunting bow and will look nice laying on that bruiser buck in the harvest photo. Can't wait to see your bow on Ky afield. Best show on TV! Chad really needs to show up at moontree.
-
Hawkdancer, KCT is KY coffeetree, not catalpa.
-
Very nice job on your bow.I found KCT is very good bow wood taking heat treatment well with the added benefit of the pinkish or violet color heat treating leaves.
Good luck getting a shot at that handsome devil.
-
Wow! Very nicely done. Jawge
-
Nice looking bow
-
I was able to take the heaviest buck I've ever taken, 220 pounds field dressed!

Look at those dark antlers. Very cool. Looks like you put an arrow where it counts. Great shot!
-

Thanks guys! Bill it was a muzzy 125. I hit a bit left of where I wanted and caught part of the leg bone, dead centered a rib and through the middle of the heart, through the ribs on the offside and di not penetrate the skin on the opposite side.
He ran 150 yards wide open into the field and flipped end over end when he died. I climbed down walked to him, snapped a couple pics with the phone then went to get the truck. Drove into the low spot where I knew he was and it was now dark enough that I couldn't find waist high grass... took me 20 minutes and he was 30 yards from the truck, lol
-
looks great,, hope you get a good close shot,,well I guess you got a good shot,, congrats,, give us more detials,, were you on the ground ,,, in a tree,,, how far was the shot,,,, did your heart stop etc,,, :-D
-
Congrats, that's a beautiful buck

I was in a treestand, needed a sw wind to hunt this fence crossing. The deer were going to a clover field 200 yards behind me.
I had a trailcam on the crossing, so I knew there were several nice bucks, this one was my preferred visitor though!
It was lightly raining, and I was late 6:00 pm getting in the stand. The wife didn't want me to go, but the wind was right!
3 bucks a small 8, a big 8 and this ten came up the wooded side of the fence about 15-20 yards apart towards the jump.
The two 8s jumped and started pushing one another around, the big guy hung up behind some trees for a while.. I was concerned as these two were working into my wind. The 10 was either going to the south and visit the corn feeder on the OOS hunters lease next door or jump. he finally jumped and I had a 10 yard broadside shot.
If he'd jumped back across the fence and ran like he did I would have had to bon him out like an elk, 250 foot drop in elevation and treetops from timber harvest... wheew! I'm glad he took the field option!
-
gotta love those 10 yard shots, gongrats again,,, :)
-
:OK
-
Congrats, that's a beautiful buck
-
Nicely done sir.

Wapiti1997, great bow, great buck and absolutely fantastic hunt. That's the way to do it sir. I just love it when a good plan comes together. Congratulations sir. Seems like this should be posted in the hunting pictures 2017 if it's not already.

Nice buck!!! Love to see a self bow shooter get em like that.Congratulations!!!Coon hunted a bunch around eastern or Sturgis,Kentucky.Beautiful area.Had the same scenario happen to me back in 2015 with a winged elm bow.My girl friend and me drug mine a good 200 yards though.Lucky it was flat and slightly downhill.
Formula for overall weight is [dressed weight times 1.26].
-
I love it!! Congrats!! :OK
-
only bad thing is I cant concentrate on what I should be doing,,that pic is distracting,,
-
Drove into the low spot where I knew he was and it was now dark enough that I couldn't find waist high grass... took me 20 minutes and he was 30 yards from the truck, lol
How the heck did you survive not breathing for 20 gut-wrenching horrifying minutes?!?!
You went and outdid yourself on this one. Congratulations!
-
Nice shot Joe. You are lucky he didn't go toward the river,I know, mine last year did. Would have been easier to get a boat and roll him on down than what I did. Congrats on buck and good looking bow.
