Title: compression block
Post by: cutty on September 17, 2017, 08:34:29 am
What is the advantage to using a compression block.  It compresses fibers for stronger arrow, weakens spine? what else?
How many use them?

Don't use them or go through the process but a friend of mine did with maple.Using a speed drill through an extruder. It raises arrow mass weight mainly what I saw with a slightly narrower shaft.Nothing else changed much, but seems narrower arrow shafts will penetrate farther at least into targets with field points and narrower shafts seem to be a little more forgiving also.

hi Cutty,
the compression block will only really just compress the outer fibers, they need to be heated up to work best, and i do believe that they will lower the spine a bit- but will give a nice glazed. polished look!
This is quite different to the compressed "Forgewood" shafts made by Sweetland!
where the entire wooden blank was compressed to 1/2 or more of its original size!
This process , made a very dense, very strong, very high spine shaft of extremely small diameter!
