My buddy who lives in Roosevelt, Utah found this not too far from his house.
Any info you guys could give that I could relay back that would be great.
Mostly when it was most likely when it was made.

All I can tell you is it looks like the beginning of a preform.

I can't tell you anymore than Eddie said. It's hard to tell from pictures on my phone, but it doesn't appear to have a lot of patenia on the flake removed areas. I'm definitely out of my area of expertise though. Not that I really have a area of expertise.lol

With Eddie. Preform but what a luster. Almost looks like mother of pearl??
No way to date it visually.

Ok I thought as much. Thanks guys:)

After I looked at it again, it looks to me like it must have been sitting with the side up like in second picture. There is a patina on flake removed area there.
I agree with Zuma wow pretty stuff. Surprised it didn't become more than a preform.

Looks like a "quarry blank". Chipped around the edges for transport. Probably ended up far from the original source. Most likely "Late Archaic" by the size (blanks got smaller over time).

Some of them western States get upset about folks picking up artifacts, so much so that they have laws against it. It doesn't look patina old enough to me either . X2 Eddie and the pros!

Where I live you can't dig for artifacts. But anything you can pick up is fair collection.
My buddy that found it is a native, he basically can do whatever he wants lol
