I realized I haven't posted a bow in quite a long time.
I Made this set for a buddy of mine who lives in Florida. The leather for the quiver and bow case was tanned by yours truly from a mule deer I had harvested a few years back. He told me he didn't want any beading done. Well I snuck some in on the bone handled knife sheath. Since I couldn't do any bead work I added some abalone and two full ermine skins for decoration. The strap is backed with red flannel to prevent curling and excessive stretching.
The Bow is Osage Orange, 58" nock to nock the whole bow is made up of just two growth rings. just over an inch wide. 2 layers of elk leg sinew.
On a good dry day she pulls 67#@30" and on a really humid day 64#@30"
I gave this bow a 1/4" positive tiller, draws in the hand nicely. The handle just starts to flex in the last few inches of draw. Thick rawhide was used to build up the handle and still allow it to flex while being able to hold comfortably while shooting.
Backed with some rattler skins and finished off with 9 coats of tru-oil, buffed and rubbed down with medium then fine course pumice for a matte finish and something I'm happy to send to a friend to hunt deer in Virginia.
Sorry no full draw it's hard for me in my chair these days.

Here yah go Simson, snapped these before she got boxed up. The nocks Reminds me of the wintu or N.california style pegs and I brought the skins down and around on the sides. No stitching on the handle, I used contact cement to keep the leather from any type of moving around and then just wrapped some calf lace and before I did the leather I added some red serving wrap on each end.

Incredible finish work Bryce
-
That is beautiful, Bryce. I'm glad to see you are sending it to EJ, that means I'll get to see it in person.
-
This is AMAZE BALLS Bryce! I mean 'WOW!' just doesn't cover it. The snake skins running over and around the nock pins is so very sweet. Here's hoping he helps control the Virginia deer population effectively! 8)
