Title: 6th Annual Moon Tree Bowyer Gathering
Post by: hedgeapple on November 18, 2017, 10:21:57 pm
Wow! I can't believe it will be 6 years since I saw a post about folks from KY and some nearby states wanting to get together for a bow building weekend.  My place seemed centrally located so I suggested my farm.  It's been one of the better choices that I've made.

The 2018 Moon Tree Gathering will be March 23, 24 and 25th.  Activities will be:
Bow building
Arrow craft
A small, but fun 3-D range
Pot luck meals
And who knows what else we'll come up with by March. I just follow the suggestions of the Founding Father's of this event and try to make it happen.

Camping is available with drop cord electricity from the house or workshop.

Location:
565 Stoney Run Road
Richmond, KY 40475
859-582-2306 cell

I look forward to this event every March.
David

You know I'll be there Dave!
Always like doing some long distance shooting at the bedding buck target.  Just love to watch an arrow in flight.

Can just anybody come or do you need character references? I've never had the chance to meet other bowmakers in person and Richmond is not a million miles away from my home in Southcentral KY. I believe I could manage a day trip at least, with a bit of luck.

Ozzy and gutshot, I'm glad you can make to the gathering again.  Gutshot, work on a longer visit. :)

bookworm, message me info so I can do a background check on you. haha just kidding.  Come on up.  Like gutshot asked, were are you from? South central Kentucky means like west of Glasgow to me.

Gutshot I知 in Hart Co. They used to have the Kentucky Klassic in Nancy. I was able to stop by there for a couple of hours one year and bought my first Osage stave. Turned into a decent ELB.

Hope to see you at moontree. I wish the KY classic was still at Nancy. It痴 just 15 min from the house.

I plan to be there a day or two. Thanks Dave for being a great host!
I have mentioned it to a local or two that want to come and I mentioned to Chad Miles the KY Afield Host that it would be a great weekend for him to build his own bow.  I'll let you know if he plans to attend.

I'd be happy to do a habitat improvement presentation if there is enough interest.  It would be a walk about the farm and discuss different practices to benefit various wildlife, tree/plant/mushroom ID...

Joe, I glad you're going to be here to do my annual property evaluation.  I'm really considering going with native warm season grasses for the front half of the farm.  Are there things I need to do before March to get that project going?
Title: Re: 6th Annual Moon Tree Bowyer Gathering
Post by: wapiti1997 on February 07, 2018, 06:29:25 pm
Go to NRCS/FSA and tell them you are interested in EQIP eligibility paperwork.  It's where you had to sign for tobacco leases etc. back in the day.  EQIP is where the cost-share is for native grasses.  It's off the bypass about the second or third light on left behind a BP.  Farm number/tract is needed for federal cost share.

Atsina, there's not a fire pit near the workshop. I  have a small one in the back, backyard.  Last year we build a fire in a short grill.  I, also, have a smoker/grill if you want to use that.  Mostly we, just cook in the kitchen of the house and theirs another stove in the guest cottage.

I think I answered most of your questions in the PM.

Atsina, I can't think of anything right now.  I'm sure I will as soon as a post this. haha

Clint are you bring you deer target again this year?  No worries if it a problem.

Extended weather forecast is calling for about 40% chance of rain ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday with temperatures mid-30's to mid-40's.  So, be prepared.

If anyone has camping cots and room to bring them do so.

I would like a cooking demonstration Bill  ;D     I plant on bringing my string making stuff and showing how I make a flemish twist string.  I've got a bow that needs tillered, one that needs a heat correction, and one that needs a ring chased around a knot hole.  That should keep me busy for the weekend.

Dave, I plan on being there around 9:00 or slightly earlier tomorrow morning if that's OK.  I know my way around the bow shop if you aren't up by then.   I'm bringing my mud boots!

Title: Re: 6th Annual Moon Tree Bowyer Gathering
Post by: hedgeapple on March 22, 2018, 11:57:38 pm
Clint, I love arsenals.

No shirts  >:(  When I called to get an estimate they were just over $9 each for the price break of 25.  So, I priced them to you all at $12 so that I would break even if I had shirts left over.  I had 12 or 14 people say they wanted shirts. When I visited the shop, they added layout fees, $2 more for XXL and larger shirts.  The cost rose to $12.50 per shirt. To see a break even point I figured I'd need to charge $16 a shirt.  And that's just too much for a simple 50/50 shirt.  Dropping the order down to 15 shirts would have had a cost of nearly $16 each.  I was ticked that the extra costs were not mentioned on the phone, so I left the store.

Had a great time this weekend even with the all day rain and 3-4" of snow we had Saturday.  The wild boar and deer roast was great Friday night, and Jeremy one of the new NC guys can make a pretty good breakfast.  Dave and his wife are some fine people and great hosts.
Thanks again, Dave
Would have loved had a video of the Outlaw swatting at that little mouse with and arrow shaft.  Funniest thing.... 3-4 grown men chasing after a little field mouse.  I think the mouse was having more fun than we were.......:)
