Title: Tiller Scale
Post by: Thunderlizard on December 16, 2017, 02:33:14 am
Howdy,

Just curious to see what folks would suggest for a good source of scales for making a tiller stick. Ideally, I would like an old fish of luggage scale, just not sure to find one. I’m sure it’s been posted about before, but I didn’t feel like sifting through every post with the word “scale” to find my answer. Thanks for any suggestions!

Easy to find a 220 lb fishing scale on line I got mine off a well known auction site. (I'm in the UK)

I have used a spring scale but now use an electronic scale from 3Rivers.

My everyday scale is a 100# Hansen spring scale. It stays outside rain or shine for the past 20 years and has lost no accuracy. I use a digital scale that will lock the highest number when I am fine tuning something or charting a FDC.

I use the same scale as Morgan when I use the stick to check weight. For the tree I use a $20 dial scale from menards. It goes to 330# so is over kill. But I can use it to weight deer too.

I really like the idea of a large digital display but the ones I've seen seem to have too many options. I used the one from 3Rivers and had to reset it every time and you have to look at the display at just the right angle. Too complicated for an old guy like me. I use a analog spring luggage scale that goes to 50#. Got it at Canadian Tire for about $10 Can. You could duck across the border and pick one up.

How big are the numbers and do you have to push buttons every time? Does it time out automatically if you don't turn it off?
