Title: Search for missing member
Post by: JW_Halverson on January 08, 2018, 12:54:34 pm
It seems he stopped posting a couple years ago and I cannot remember his username except that it ended in the numbers 1776.  The search engine does not do a great job searching by how usernames end, only by how they begin.

Does anyone remember his full username?

Sorry, John, I can't remember either.

the only user I've found is

in
members--> search for members
you can put just part of the name and it should give you all instances with that string in it

Yeah, see this guy starts with 1776, the other guy ended with 1776. So yeah, not the one. But thanks.

Will continue searching old posts.  He and I did a swap a long time back.  I think he gifted me with a pair of ERC billets that have been curing for over 5 years now and I am considering attacking them.

I think his non-user name was Jimmy....

WHEW! JW, you had me worried sick! After your post about a bald eagle taking your nose off, after only reading the title of this thread i had become very concerned for your well being, and what this post may be about! Perhaps you had a VERY unfortunate day at work again.
Glad to know you found the member you were looking for!

The member search will find it at the end too 1776J is the only one with "1776" so either you got the number wrong or they deleted their account.
Were they a regular? AncientArcher76 or beetlebailey1977 maybe?

Funny thing Pearl, my wife says the same thing. She does really like the people we've meet from here though.

I have sent him a PM just in case he is set up to get an email when he receives one.  He hasn't been in here under that username in almost a year now.  Someone has his address from a trade and is gonna share it with me. I will be sure to pass along everyone's good wishes.

There are a lot of names I miss seeing post in here; youngbowyer, gstoneberg, SquirrelSlayer...

Ok, I lied about that last one.

I think Ol' Squirrely made a brief appearance under a different name about a year ago.  It didn't take him long to get shown the door again.

I see gstoneberg on facebook quite a bit.  He is turning very nice wood bowls now.

I don't remember the user name.  He only lasted for a couple of days.  I'm not totally sure it was him.

Jez, in any form, tends to leave an oily trace.  You should see some of the videos he has posted on Youtube.

What are the videos?

"1000 Degree EXPLOSION Sniper Shooting"  (he shoots a can of hairspray with an air rifle. Idiocy complete with his friends aiming the air rifle at the camera and at each other, ultimately shooting at the target at about 20 feet - a distance most snipers would never attempt.)

"I CLIMBED A VOLCANO", "Nearly MURDERED while exploring Haunted Woods!!!!!!", "EXPLORING HAUNTED SCHOOL (GHOSTLY ACTIVITY)"

Same old crap

Ah, a kid doing kid stuff. Well, other than poor gun handling, i suppose he is harmless, hopefully he will grow up oneday and be a contribution to society.

Nah, this kid can't not fib.  And that is putting a positive spin on him.

I received a pair of those erc billet's from him also, and am excited to  see what you do with them. I still have his address too if you still need it.

I am frustrated with my lack of drive to make a decision as to whether I should splice in the handle or make it up as a takedown with sleeves.

The billets are actually wide enough that I am also tempted to run 'em through a bandsaw and double down! There seems to be enough meat that this is altogether possible. But the fear of failing two sets of billets versus wasting a whole lot of dang nice ERC is paralyzing.

If you sinew back them, they could be skinnier...

I always get hung up on billets too.  Takedowns are cool, but what if I mess them up and have to salvage the sleeves?  Cutting splices scares me because precision is not my strongest point.  It's too easy just to put them back in the rafters and grab a stave.  Maybe just flip a coin!  (Or, if you cut them in two, one of each would work!)

Personally jw, i would and have done laminates with them. Its easy, and you get a lot more out of them. Bamboo and erc is a heavenly match.
