We tried this trade last year and it seemed to go over pretty well. There has been some interest in doing it again this year. This trade is for supplies only! Trade items could include staves, rock, skins, fur, shaft materials, feathers, leather, metal for knives or trade points, horn, antler, etc. Last year it was only U.S. members who participated. The customs laws with each country will make it difficult to have an international trade.
When you sign up, please send me a PM with your shipping address. I'll randomly draw names and send the info out in PM's. When you get your persons name you can do some research and see what interests they have. If you need help let me know and I can ask for you. The deadline to sign up is January 24th. When do you guys want to have the shipping deadline? I'll keep an updated list of participants on this post.

-
I'm in Clint. I missed this last year.
-
If might as well join in too. I missed last year, so I can’t be missing again this year. I’m good with the 2-3 weeks. That should be plenty of time to get stuff gathered up.

-
How exactly does this work as far as value? I want to join in but being kind of new here I don't want to set the bar to high or especially not too low for what I send.
-
No minimum value persay. A few examples: Last year I sent off a take-down sleeve set, a huge spool of silk thread, set of drum sticks and a few other goodies. Some fellas sent a stave, some fellas sent off a few staves, I received a piece of calf hair, beaver tail, osage billets and some cow horn tips for English style ELB nocks.
-
You could look back through 2017 supply trade for some ideas. It's kinda nice if you can send something someone else might not have. Last year I sent a three untanned hides. Scraped and stretched. Air dried like a fur buyer would want them. I sent 1 red fox 1 mink and 1 muskrat. I received a Hackberry Stave and tip overlay materials. Some blood wood, Redbud wood Antler and bone if I remember right. It's kinda nice to try figure out what your recipient would like to get. Some guys like myself would like knapping stone others have no use for it.
Bjrogg
-
Thanks, guys, that gives me some great ideas.
I'm in, sending PM.
-
I’ve done bow trades, arrow trades, and Christmas trades but this supply trade is by far my favorite and very excited to get my victim. (-P

Are you guys OK with a shipping deadline of February 14th, Valentines Day?
-
That's good by me.
-
Sounds good to me. Looking forward to getting my guys stuff together.
-
I agree, Eric. I enjoy shopping in my shop for somebody else. I literally grab a box and walk around tossing useful items in it.
-
Thanks for heading this trade again Clint, its a good one.
I think my guy is gonna have fun with this killer yew stave ;)
-
14,th is good for me. Thanks Clint.
-
I’ve been shopping for my guy today in the shop and got a lot of stuff put together. Gonna finish up tomorrow evening in the new shop and see if I can’t round up something else. I like to try to ship early. Hopefully this Saturday.
-
I will have my package together shortly I think wizardgoat will find good use for the items.

Bjrogg

-
I'll have my package mailed off on Monday. Kind of fun mailing off surprises to a total stranger.
-
I got my stuff picked out. My guy does it all, so shopping for him was easy. Should be shipped by mid next week.
-
My package has shipped and should arrive be on Jan 30th. So watch for the mail man!
-
I got you marked down as shipped on the first post. Thanks!
-
No problem Clint. I always try to ship ASAP. And thanks for putting this trade on. I think it’s the funnest trade on the PA because you never know what your gonna get.
-
box is loaded, will be in the mail Monday morning.
-
Please make a post here and tell me when you have officially shipped your supplies. I'll keep track of it on the first post on page 1. Also let me know when you have received. Last year we had 100% success rate. I'd like to do that again.
-
I've officially shipped. Recipient will receive by Wed or Thur this week.
-
Thanks D-Cheese. I've got you marked down on the first post.
-
Package shipped today
-
Thanks Bronco. I got you marked down.
-
I'm getting my stuff together. My recipient says he's good with anything, so... a little bit of anything is what he is going to get. Honestly I think he will find a use for all of it. And some of it should save him some money. I sure wish he needed a premo Osage stave, this would have been easier. Should have it ready to ship before deadline.
-
I'll be getting some stuff together this weekend to ship next week I just had shoulder surgery on Thur. so I'm running a little behind.
-
Shipping mine out at lunch today. Hey fella who gets it, be sure to go through it thoroughly. There should be six items in the tube.
-
Well balsatech, if you need to get rid of a stave, I'll gladly take it off your hands.
Got my guys package ready to go, just need to make it to the PO.
-
Somebody has a package at there front door or porch. I just checked the tracking and it has been delivered.
-
GOT IT!!! I just got home from work, and opened up one heck of a package. I think I may have really lucked out on this trade. What awesome list of things. Thank you so much Paul

-
Glad you like it Eric. I usually get 2-3 Mink’s a year (road kills). There a cool little critter.
-
Very nice gutshot
Bjrogg
-
Very nice indeed.
-
That's a nice bunch of supplies. That's what this trade is all about. Great job Gutshot!
-
Received my trade supplies today. WOW!!! Aaron sent me a lot of good stuff!!!
12 bamboo shafts
target tips
fletching
4 prototype trade points with cut outs
5 trade points made from an old shovel
water buffalo horn
bees wax
elk sinew
handmade paste wax
knife blank
finished knife
variouse hardwood pieces for tip overlays
raw 1095 steel for making a knife
micarta
mesquite
blackwood
and purpleheart!!!
How did you know that rosewood is my favorite wood?!?!?! Makes the finished knife absolutely beautiful!! It's good that my new apprentice is also a knifemaker so he can help me with the blank and steel along with sharpening the trade points for me! :OK
Good thing it arrived before I sent mine out. Now I;ve gotta step up my game for my recipient!! I'm going to email you tonight. Thank you so very much!!!
G-Monee >:D
-
Wow what a great list of stuff.
-
That's no "list", its a shop full! Even though he doesn't deserve THAT much cool stuff. :)
-
I'll remember that Pearly!!! :-M
G-Monee >:D
-
You guys are really stepping it up this year. Great job!
-
Great stuff guys. I'm still trying to think of something my guy might not have. I'm thinking he's got a lot of the same stuff I got. I'll find something.
Bjrogg
-
Glad you like it G.
Figured I was going a little over board but there was room in the box so I had to keep stuffing. Things ship better when firmly packed...good excuse right? Much of it I had in the garage for more than a couple of years so time to use it or loose it.
The shafts are supposed to spine 55-60, BTW.
I really love this paste wax recipe so let me know what you think. Feels like chocolate to the hands...best way I can describe it.
Now let's see your hands put it to good use!
-
got my package from pearly today. I will be making some fine arrows tipped with a flint head that will hopefully take a turkey this spring and a deer this fall. thank you much sir.
-
My bundle goes out tomorrow. Will probably sent a supplemental wee box, since a couple things apparently got hidden by the garage troll, and I got to find them! >:D
Hawkdancer
-
I put a package in the mail yesterday. Am going to try to send out one more box of stuff on Monday though.
-
Got you marked down as shipped Arrow Buster
Nice bunch of arrow supplies TimmyD.
-
Ready to ship out on Monday
Kyle
-
The main bundle shipped today, should arrive by Tuesday, secondary depends on appeasing the garage troll! Should go out Tuesday or Wednesday >:D!
Hawkdancer
-
I got you marked down as shipped Hawkdancer.
-
I got my supply package all boxed up and ready to ship tomorrow. I tried to find a variety of stuff. I hope my guy can use it all.
-
I got mine ready to go it'll go out tomorrow or Wed. I'll post when I ship.
-
There should be some pics posted by the end of the week. I get excited to see what people receive. I will say it again this is the best trade on the PA and everybody out there that haven’t been in on it your missing a great trade.
-
I received my package today. I got some pretty good stuff to work with. I will post pics in the next day or so.
-
I got a package waiting for me when I finally get off work. 14 he days get long.
-
I've got mine boxed up and will ship one day this week when I can get to the post office after work.
-
I finally made it home. There was a long box wih my name on it waiting patiently for me. Insde i found 12 cane arrow shafts all straightened and splined at 50 to 55 lbs. And a very nice looking stave which i think is osage but am not positive because I have never seen any osage before. I know with the tight woodgrain that it will produce a killer bow. Not sure who sent it, the name on the package says Reynolds from Elizabethtown, Ky. Thanks so very much I can't wait to get busy with the bow and arrows.
-
That is as nice looking stave and arrow shafts. Those are from Arrowbuster.
-
Just sent mine out this morning. :OK
G-Monee >:D
-
Just dropped mine off at the post office. Should be there Friday.
Kyle
-
I got you guys marked as shipped. Thanks!
We have just a little over a week left to ship.
-
I went through my box tonight and took a pic. I got a variety of exotic woods that I intend to use for tip overlays. I got some shaft material. A super sharp knife blank, some field tips and some feathers. Very nice box of stuff that I will do my best to put to good use. Thank you Hawkdancer.
-
Oh yeah, please excuse the mess in the pic. Im a budding bowyer afterall!!!
-
Mine went out today.
-
Those are some nice packages.
-
well, I've been stuck as to what to send. I'm sending some odds and ends but also wood to build a bow either in stave form or billets. It seems that everything I've looked through (osage, ash, black locust, hickory) there is always something that made me put it back. Either thin rings, pin knots, wavy grain (character bow stuff) or something like that. Well, its time to make a decision so I'm going to go back through it all and pick. I hope to have mine shipped tomorrow if I'm not completed frozen in from this weather. Ice today, couple of inches snow tonight (S)
-
Got mine today from Clint. He had the box stuffed.
Here's a list of what he sent.
2 sides of beaver tail
cake of bee's wax
3 bags of feathers
snakeskin
roll of FF string
roll of serving
roll of sinew
2 pieces of ram horn
2 pieces of horn
1 hide I think goat
4 pieces of leather
3 pieces of buckskin
Thanks Clint I'll get a lot of use out of everything
-
I tried to pack an assortment. That was the biggest box that I had so I packed it all in there tight. That is a goat hide. I figured it might be something different than what you trap. The snake skin is a black rat snake. It had a scar on it. I hope you can work around it.
-
I didn't forget about this. I'm still looking though my stuff. I got the flu the last two days. Wow that sure put me down for the count. I'm feeling a little better today but I might be pushing to deadline on this one sorry.
Bjrogg
-
I got my boxes to the post office this afternoon. One should be delivered Saturday the other hopefully Monday.
-
Good deal. I got you marked down as shipped.
BJ, try not to pack any flu germs in your package ;)
-
I'll try not to Clint. I'm feeling a lot better today. I'm hoping to get everything put together this weekend and ready to ship Tuesday. I don't think our local post office is open on Mondays. Should still be shipped before deadline.
Bjrogg
-
The trade items I received were on my porch when I got home from work today. They were from Mo coon catcher and included a good looking 68" black locust stave, 5 bamboo arrow shafts, tanned beaver and coon skin strips for silencers, some boa shed skins and a nice slat of walnut that can be used for anything from limb tips to handle laminations. I will have to look up how to best use this stave as I have only worked with hedge and some hickory. I asked Clint to maybe post a pic for me later. Thanks Kyle.
-
Your welcome
I hope you can make use of those ball python sheds. I love to use them myself. With the black locust, chase a ring like you would Osage, then make it wide and heat treat. It’s surprising how thin the limbs get when you go 2” wide and 50# draw. The one I’m working now from the same tree is following that width and heavy heat treat and is 5/16” thick midlimb and is still only getting 15” with 50# pull.the walnut slat is from a figured cutoff from a stave. I ended up making two sets of scales for mine and my grampas ruger black hawk revolvers from slats cut from the same piece
Kyle
-
Here is the picture from Balsatech. That's a good looking stave.

-
Only 5 days left guys!!! There are still 4 people who need to ship.
-
Hawkdancer came through again. He sent some sinew, leather material for a handle and arrow rest , lacing material and some casings to you for blunts. Thank you Jerry.
-
I got a box FULL of goodies from the Monee man. Thanks G! I already have ideas whirling through my head. This swap is gonna grow fast if folks continue on with such generous offerings. I know Ive enjoyed it each time.
-
Glad you like everything Pearly. The skins on the bottom are tanned and dyed salmon skins. The feathers are all right wing since I know you prefer them. The turkey feathers are from last spring's hunt, then I split and ground them myself. Couldn't resist sending you the sting ray skin!! I want to see the arrows when they're finished too!! (SH) Enjoy there buddy!!
G-Monee >:D
-
Very nice! I like that stingray skin.
-
I received my trade package from Balsatech today. All I can say is WOW! You went way overboard. It was like a never ending box of goodies. Thank you so much. It will be fun putting this stuff to use. The trailer stuff was perfect.
Here is what was in the package:
elk antler
feathers
surewood arrow shafts
hand made fishing lures
Vet wrap for handle wraps
castration rings for string keepers
piano keys and other overlay material
fur for silencers
a mystery burl
handle wrap leather
ratchet straps
a boat trailer jack
a length of very large chain
(https://i.imgur.com/nWJXgWYh.jpg)
-
Daaaaang!!!
-
Great package DOUBLE O!
-
Your welcome Clint. I think that burl was a type of holly, I found it looking over a farm for hedge. It's very dense and got some weight to it doesn't it. Thank you buddy for taking your time to manage this trade.
-
BJ, your package has been delayed by the weather. It should be arriving by dog sled soon.
The deadline to ship is this Wednesday, Feb. 14th!!!
If you are not able to ship on time please let me know.
-
Very nice Clint. Yup we got a nice snow now. Really it's beautiful here right now. Pure white snow everywhere.
I got a box stuffed and ready to send out.
Bjrogg
-
I'm shipped
Bjrogg
-
I'm shipped to.
-
Thanks guys! I got you marked down as shipped.
-
Shipped! Should be on someone's porch in 3 days.
-
You guys are awesome! Everyone has shipped and we still have 2 days before the deadline. Thanks everyone. There should be several deliveries this week. I hope to see some pictures posted.
-
I just received a second box from Bill Reynolds. Inside of the box was a couple of wool yarn string silencers, a tillering gizmo and a jar containing hickory bark syrup. I will research that syrup, because I have never heard of it.. a large thanks for the opportunity to trade items and receive items I do not have. This will not be the last time I participate in a swap thread. Mike
-
I got a package from trapper rob today. Very nice Rob. 11 very nice parallel shafts looks like spine is between 52 and 59 most in the 55 56 area just right. I think there was something like 32 I believe rivercane shafts? I've never used it before so look forward to put a bunch together. Two nice lengths of bandsaw blades for making broadheads. Three assorted pieces of leather for handles and such. Thanks Rob.
Bjrogg
-
BJ I think those arrow shafts are douglas fir.
-
Nice! You wont need arras for a good while. Those river canes will last a long time if you don't lose them.
-
Thanks Rob. They look really nice
Pearl I'm getting better at not losing them. ;) for some reason there getting better at going where they are supposed to.
Bjrogg
-
Nice package. I really like the river cane
-
Got nice Mt Hood NF stave from High Desert, neatly squared, center marked, and ready to rough out a bow! Now, I just need to figure out what kind of wood it is. >:D :BB. Not familiar with the processed wood from the NW, except redwood. Seems too heavy for cedar or juniper.

Hawkdancer
-
Is that a primo yew stave (A)
-
Bark looks like Yew. How about a shot of the end? Sapwood?
-
Both ends! Don't know that I have ever seen yew before in any
Form.

Hawkdancer
-
Yew scored big ;D ;D pun intended
-
Box 1 of 2 arrived.
Raccoon fur for silencers
Deer hooves for overlay
A string
Leather for handle wrap
Antlers
Piece of osage
Can't wait for the billets. Thanks, man!
-
Hawkdancer, it is yew, from the straightest splitting yew tree I have ever seen. Shes clean and straight as an arrow.
-
Methinks that stave will make a fine bow - when I get a couple more under my belt, shooting, of course!. What type bow do you think? I'm partial to Native American styles, and the Meare Heath is also on my list. Chasing arrows is good cardio exercise, chasing rings, not so much! Thanks!
Hawkdancer
-
Chasing rings is good stress control. >:( :BB
-
All the trades are a lot of fun, but I think the supply trade has been the most fun more me. Its really fun to see all the cool supplies people are getting, things that a lot of us wouldn't otherwise be able to get.
Hawkdancer, I'm a big fan of native styles too. Most native bows removed the sap wood, but no reason you cant improvise how ever you want. I'm glad you like the stave.
-
Pat,
Heck, I'm stressed enough chasing bend on hickory! :BB (SH) >:D >:D!
Hawkdancer
-
Got my supply trade today from Bjrogg
(http://i.imgur.com/7DFdXtW.jpg) (https://imgur.com/7DFdXtW)
5-Red Osier Shoots
1-bundle of Indian Dogbain
1-deer antler
1-deer leg bone
5-oak slabs
5-blak walnut w/ sap wood slabs
1-deer back sinew
1-bag of goose primary's
Cant wait to make some arrows out of those red osier shafts, and will have to use the goose primary's and back sinew to finish those arrows off. I have a idea for the dogbain. The planks, antler, and leg bone will also come in handy. Thanks Bjrogg I really like the package.
-
I'm glad you like it Paul. I really didn't want to send you the same thing you just sent and it took me awhile to figure out what to send you. I hope you find a good use for everything especially the dogbane. It's really pretty simple to make into fiber and string.
Really enjoyed the supply trade Clint thanks for putting it on. You run a tight ship. Everyone involved really stepped up to.
Bjrogg
-
There have been some great packages this year. Everyone has stepped up. I think we are waiting on 1 person to receive their package and this trade will be wrapped up.
-
Very nice goody bag, gut.
-
I woke up this afternoon to a package waiting on me. Inside was a beautiful yew stave. Thanks a bunch Ryan. I hope I can due justice to it when it comes time to make it bend.
Kyle
-
Wow! Another primo yew stave. That should wrap up the trade this year. Wizard Goat received his package but I don't know if he was able to pick it up yet. Thanks for another great trade guys. We will have to do it again next year.
-
I hope that stave serves you well Kyle, there’s any kind of bow waiting in there.
My parents picked up my package from the cabin and sent me slme pics
2 huge EDB skins, some nice sinew and black walnut scraps, and loads of very nice turkey feathers.
Thanks sir! And thanks Clint for heading this swap again
-
Are we wrapped up? I believe so. Good work gents.
-
Yep. Everyone has shipped and received. It's very easy to run a trade when everyone does what they signed up for. I don't know about you guys but I'm excited to start using some of the supplies that I received. I think I will start with some wood arrows.
-
I'm starting with the stingray hide the Monee Man gave me. It will be the a grip on my next rig.
-
It would be great to see pictures of some of the supplies in use. I'm pretty excited to finally have some otter fur to use for string silencers on my sinew backed Modoc style-ish bow, and to start my first takedown.
-
Otter fur is great for the job. Its a bit shorter knap and lighter than beava'.
-
probably going to start a few arrows first (SH), the stave ,i am going to take to a trad group weekend and built the bow there with people who have a lot of experience and all of the tools and advice I will need to keep from messing it up (--) (R. I will post pictures of items when I complete them. Thanks everyone for this trade thread and the opportunity to get some supplies that are not local here where I live. Thanks arrowbuster and the hickory bark syrup you sent is excellent, the wife and I used half of it on pancakes and I plan to make drop biscuits in my dutch oven on my next camping trip (=) and use the rest then.
-
If anybody uses some of their stuff before I do, please start a thread. It would be fun to watch stuff get used throughout the year.
-
A huge thanks to Clint for running the show! :OK :OK :OK!!! I think I would be very wise to build a few more bows before I start on the primo yew stave! Give me time to figure out what style to use! And maybe get the screw-ups out of my system.
Hawkdancer
-
Thank you Clint for setting this up, I have enjoyed it a lot.
-
No problem guys. Glad to do it.
