This bow was in the fuming pipe for about a week and the result was a very nice multi colored appearance. The early wood rings took much more of the fuming. At a specific light angle there is a wonderful 3d effect in the wood, looks like black / brown strokes are laying in a transparent gold. Sorry, the pics show only an impression. The back was prepared with osage soup (solution from sawdust, tanning acid and alcohol) which brought an almost black color. After light sanding I got the desired matching color.
Design is a deflex/reflex, sharp deflex immediately after the fades. Reason for that was, I always wanted to try that and I wanted a bow which can be drawn further than my normally 28” - just to train my shooting style. The stave took some effort to correct and balance out, unfortunately there were lots of cracks and wind checks (ring delamination). Most of them were avoidable, you can see one filled (with thin super glue -after the fuming!) crack near the arrow pass inlay. The steamed in recurves are working a bit. Cross section at fades is a crowned belly. Tapering into rectangular midlimb and he last 5 inches are a 5 edge (belly ridge). This design has no stack at all, wonderful smooth draw.
The overlays on tips and handle are bone and horn (both buffalo). Arrow pass inlay is also bone.

Well, you hit it out of the park for No 100. Beautiful job as usual. Nice early draw numbers. :OK :OK
-
Sheer beauty, Simon. Beautiful bow.

^ That is me speechless. I just have no words for this one!
-
Beautiful bow
-
Fantastic bow on all counts.
Appreciate all the detailed stats!
-
One of my favorite bows from you Simon! Love the lines! Thanks for the inspiration sir!!
-
WOW, that is absolutely beautiful! A true work of art.

Your force draw curve looks good up to about 28" and from 28" to 32" it looks too good to be true. I have never seen a fiberglass bow with much more radical profiles build at that rate especially on a 61" bow. Are you sure the wood is not collapsing internally at that point??????
-
I'm trying to think of a way to say how much I love it without swearing and I don't think I can.
It's all so very beautiful Simson. I hope your design choice is giving you the intended result for training your shooting style. It's always extra impressive when you know exactly what you want a bow to do and it ends up doing it. :BB
Congrats on #100! (-S

Immaculate craftsmanship, never expect less when I click on you bow posts Simson...

Hopefully see another 100 Simson. They are all beautiful.
Thanks for sharing

Do you still need my address for this one?
-
a really beautiful bow that has excellent lines strung and unstrung... :OK
-
I like that one for sure! Can't wait to see 200 . That might make me really drool. Arvin
-
Beautiful!

Nice looking bow. Not sure I would want to make a 61" bow with a 32" draw, that's a lot of strain on the wood

Yes that's about five inches more than I'd probably figure on. I'm not anywhere near the bowyer you two are though. The deflex should help considerably but I'd love to see the full draw.

That is an absolutely unbelievable bow. I look forward to the full draw pics! (SH)

Yes! A true work of art. That design is my favorite to make and tiller.
-
Man i like that grip area on that,it is really top shelf work.i just like the bright yellow of a new piece of osage and watching it turn naturally.
-
I am stunned and speechless as well - to think that something so finely crafted could be deadly as well..........it's mystical.
-
No. 100 gets 100 out of 100! Just beautiful. That handle.....
Nice photographs mate. Thanks for sharing
-
(A) (A) (A) Woah! That's amazing! You never cease to impress. Do you have a full draw picture to go with that bow?
-
Hi Simon,
I just about love everything about this bow! The handle, the colours, the shape, the tips, the length and the stats. Functional art this is what I would call this bow. I can't wait to see the full draw pictures on this one! A fitting bow for Number 100. I think you should make some matching arrows for this one, that would look cool.
-
I don't normally respond twice but this one is worth it, great bow Simon! This is the fourth time I have been back to look at it.

Steve,
until now the bow shows no sign of failure. the design is heavy deflexed with very sharp fades (bow begins to bend already near the grip).
But, I shot her only with a 29, or maybe in some cases a 30" draw - I simply can't manouver the technique (always wondered how Weylin does this drawing to the ear).
She was on the tiller tree for weighing measurements and was drawn to 32". String angle still under 90°, probably the reason for the draw curve.
Just wondered why you are not talking the mass, she a bit heavy for my taste.
Edit:
Forgot to mention, I'm pretty sure the long fuming did chance the structure of the wood. Can't say what that is, but it makes the wood more elastic. I noticed there are industrial wood bending companies using also fuming (and steam with pressure).

Thanks for all your nice comments!
Sorry for my late response, I just came back and a noticed your compliments, thank you!
Well the f/d pic. I have forgot it first, tried to post it now for several times - don't know what I make wrong, it didn't work.
As said, on my site are lot of more pics including the fd- just click on the globe on the left under my aka and then look under "bows".
At least I got it ...

That is beautiful Simson. I knew it would be. I've been trying to do that draw like Weylin to lately on some bows that I've made for longer draw lengths. Hard for me to train myself to do it. Maybe for my bows that s a good thing.

Great work. More a piece of art than a bow ;)
-
Simpson, I think the mass is perfect for that long draw. The tiller at full draw also looks about perfect. Is the bow only 61" long?
-
Amazing amount of effort into detail in all aspects on your bow.Going the extra in looks/construction and draw.It would take me out of my norm shooting to draw that far.I'm afraid my accuracy would suffer until practice could readjust. For killing power in my situations I find its not neccessary myself.Goes to show I guess too though exactly what osage will do though. Thanks for showing.
-
Beautiful looking bow. The handle/fades looks amazing. What did you use for the finish?
-
Awesome looking bow. Your work is always top notch.

Steve, I measured again, following the curves on the back and tape laid down - it is exact 61" and a quarter of an inch. Is the deflexed design a factor in mass theory? Thanks for your input!

Clint, it is just my usual homemade mixture of hardening oil
Thanks for your comments, guys!
-
That is a worthy no. 100! Amazing finishing! Love the combination of the soup and the fuming. Bet it is the smoothest draw ever!
-
She is a beauty. Congratulations on #100. Jawge
-
Gorgeous bow, and congrats on the milestone number. You do excellent work.
-
All I can say is WOW!!!! Congrats, SS
-
Clint, it is just my usual homemade mixture of hardening oil
How do you make your mixture?
-
Absolutely stunning, congrats on the milestone..... if i may ask a question, i have a finished bow with overlays glued on with CA, will the fuming react with the glue resulting in failure?
-
It seems to me that I had the tips come off while fuming. I'm not a 100% sure though so wait for more responses. I think I just let them dry thoroughly and glued them back on. Boy I'm sounding old ;D ;D
-

It is a mixture from beeswax, caraubawax and some other ingredients thinned with true balsam terpentine oil.
Next time when mixing my next stockpile I will do a how-to.
After fuming and dmping out some days all glues can be used.

Fuming and ca glue and pva glue is a no go, only epoxi resist!
After the fuming and after damping out for some days all glues can be used.

Thank you for the quik response

I'd missed this Simon. Congratulations on the bow, the #, and the win. Just beautiful.
-
Absolutely stunning in every way. I really like the D/R design. I've found I can go longer draws on shorter length that defies the standard draw length x 2 plus 10%. I know with good Osage those numbers go out the window.
-
Just jaw dropping...
You have raised the bar Sir! Im both performance and beauty!
My has off to you.
Patrick

Breath taking! I can't imagine a bow looking so beautiful but you've hit a home run with bases loaded on this one.
Makes my latest look like a used popsicle stick.
