Well guys, it's getting time to think about what we're going to make to add to the raffle table at the Tenn. Classic. Pappy and the guys at Twin Oaks go all out to make the Classic the best traditional/primitive shoot and gathering in the country. Where else can you take a long weekend or the whole week for little to nothing money wise. Where else can you spend all that time with the best folks anywhere and enjoy such great facilities.
Each year I try to make something special for the raffle table in appreciation to Twin Oaks and to help with the cost of such a great gathering. The last few years I've made paper mache figures depicting an Eastern Woodland Hunter one year and a Crusades Era English Archer. For this years offering I decided on an old flintknapper passing on his skills to a young brave. Below is a few tease pics for you. The work is still in progress and I'll post the finished piece when it's all done. Here are a few pics...

Please feel free to add pics of your offering here when you are ready. Let's get folks jazzed up so they will bring lots of money to put is the raffle table jars and let's make this year's Classic the best ever! :OK :BB :-K :KN (R (-S (W (SH) (=) (--) -C- and for Eddie... :G

Well done Pat turned out very nice.. Donations are important to clubs.. Sometimes we need a little help from our friends..
Thanks Leroy

That's awesome Pat! I'm not a knapper but I'll be dropping a lot of tickets on your donation.

Thanks guys. It's been a fun winter project.

I've got something in the works, Pat. I'll post when I have it finished. Waaaayyy cool paper mache' figurines. I love those.
-
Thanks guys.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you're adding to the table, Matt.
-
Outstanding!
-
I have something in the works too, a bit different than what I’ve done for the raffle before.
Btw pat I’ve put tickets on your figurines both years sense you started making them and not even come close ;D guess that means they’re a popular item at the raffle table.
-
The third time is a charm, Dylan. ;)
-
next year you'll have to do a buffalo hunt on a 4x8 plywood layout ,I can see it now .
Like the knappers, might have to add a little blood.
Roger
-
Roger, I was wondering what to do next year...a buffalo hunt. :OK
-
Well, it's just about done. Only a few finishing touches left. The bow is Eastern Woodland style hickory bow with a twisted sinew string and single side nocks, quiver is birch bark, arrows are hill cane with real feathers, atlatl and darts are hill cane with real feathers, The stone they are knapping, the debitage and the pile on the ground are found artifact chips and the ground cover is creek sand and small gravel. Here are a few pics...

Pat, that is just an OUTSTANDING work of art.
-
Thanks guys. I really enjoy making these figures and it is definitely going for a good cause. 8)
-
Pat, I can almost hear the schnick sound of a good flake being removed and smell the campfire. Again you have raised the bar pretty high, Sure hope I can win that piece, truly amazing. Bob
-
That's quite the work of art. Lots of different things coming together to make the whole. Just the painting alone looks great.
-
Beautiful work Pat, many thanks. :)
Pappy
-
Hoping for big numbers again this year Pappy. :OK
I'd still like to see what others will be offering.

Well, I've donated bows in previous Classics but, after winning a double-grand-whammy a few years ago I thought it time to return the effort.
This is a deflex/reflex, sinew backed bow from osage billets I rec'd in or around 1995. The billets I was told, were from a tree cut in 1950. They were stored/found inside an old barn. They were W-Spliced into a heavy deflex then the limbs bent individually on a form built just for this bow. It has 3 layers of whitetail sinew which is covered/decorated with a printed, heavy linen cloth. The bow is about 56" long tip-to-tip and is 45# at 26" draw length.
The quiver I made from heavy leather I've collected during the years. The quiver strap leather came from our late, Mr. Clyde Gaskins. The river cane arrows were made from shafts harvested in Tennessee as well the turkey feathers they are fletched with.
The knife blank was made by Twin Oaks Member, Mr. Alan Corn. I finished it with curly cherry wood scales.
This was a fun project and I'm thrilled to donate this set to the 2018 TN Classic Raffle Table.

Daaaamn! You nailed that Matty!

I'm going to have to buy a lot of tickets. Very nice work Matt.

-
Thanks Guys, for the kind words.
-
That whole set up is awesome Matt.Someone's gonna get lucky.
-
I didn't have time to make what I wanted to for the raffle table. I was thinking about putting up a goat fur hip quiver that I made and a wide reflexed stave with a good sized hole in it. I know at least one guy who will drop some tickets on it ;D
-
Does his first name start with Chuck?
-
It sure does. The bow he made from my last donated stave was in the recent PA magazine.
-
Stunning artistry/craftsmanship fellas! Stunning!!
-
WOW Matt , that is a beautiful set, many thanks to all my friends. Yall don't know how much all you do is appreciated. Just you friendship would be more than enough. :)

Well Folks, I won’t be able to make it, but here’s a call I’m donating. Hope you all enjoy it! It’s an old piece of English walnut burl. Lots of bug holes but it’s a solid piece. The bug holes just add character if you ask me. Sounds good, I’m sure somebody will take a bird with it.
Thanks for looking.
