Title: forged every day carry finished
Post by: KHalverson on March 09, 2018, 03:49:57 pm
been a while since I made a knife for myself.
so I decided I would try and forge an interpretation of a knife from my home land.
the seax.
a scaled down version for every day at home carry.
forged from a Nicholson file.
8 inches over all 3.5 inch blade hammered fingered guard.
1st photo  is as forged with cut off from file.
2nd photo  is profiled after heat treat and temper.

Very nice.  What are the holes in the handle for, to help the epoxy hold better?  It doesn't look like they are all the way through.  I've drilled holes in mine to lighten them up.

yes,
they give the epoxy some place to go.

Kevin,
I done some research and found this is a "broken-back style" Seax blade...Interesting design, never seen one before...Hope I'm correct...Looking good

You do some fine work, that one is looking good. I carry the neck knife you gifted me a few years back in MI. every day, it is my go to necker and has held up great. Look forward to seeing that one finished. :)

been picking away at this as time allows.
blade hand sanded to 400 in pic 1.
after a light vinegar etch in pic 2.
rubbed out lightly to expose some hamon in pic3.
scales glued in pic4.
I chose kingwood for scales.
wanted something dark to emulate bog oak.

Very nice work Kevin, love it. Love your work, I still wear the necker you gifted me several years back every day. It has held up nicely as I am sure that one will. ;)
