Title: heat treating lemon wood?
Post by: JWMALONE on March 13, 2018, 05:05:16 pm
Hey guys I just got the bow glued up but was wondering if lemon wood benefited from heat treating. Its a 64 inch R/D.

Tropical woods tend to not like heat. Bit late anyway with the glue up done.

Thanks Pat,  I thought I read that some were about lemon wood but wasn't sure. This is the first time I've ever seen the stuff. What little tillering I did to get it in the form it seems great to work with. Not exactly like other tropicals I've worked with, better id say

Yeah, we heat treat other woods to make them act more like the "premium" woods.  I don't know much about lemonwood, but other dense tropicals I tried anything with didn't like or didn't need heat-treating.  Most are really stubborn even about steam bending.
