This is a side split off a stave I got from Frank at Marshall. He had what was left after everyone picked them over and was tired of hauling them back and fourth to meets. He said they were all at least 25 years old. He gave them to me for a steak dinner on my grill and a Cold barley pop. They looked pretty challenging but I got a nice adult bow from this stave and this one from the side split. The stave had several inches of a ring chased and I just continued chasing that ring. It's much darker where it was exposed for all the years. I've still got several more challenging staves and it amazing working with this old wood.
I call this one old -n- young because of the old Osage stave and that it is made for a young child. It's 11 lbs at 15" but you can take it back considerably more. I think these bows are great fun to shoot for both old and young and they sure make this old fart feel young again. Just old Osage and ebony tip overlays. FF string 3 coats of tru oil and looks like I'm gonna have to make some more arrows.
Hope you like it thanks for looking

-
Sweet looking bend on that little shooter BJ.Nice work!

Awesome! Great lil stik

Thanks JW
rps3 I still not sure. I have been wanting to make one for our 4-H group. We have a very young group with zero Archery experience and I'd love to do something about that.
Thanks Ed. I still am amazed at this Osage and really like working with it. It's just so different than HHB
Thanks Stixnstones.
Thanks for looking everyone

That's special! Great tiller. Jawge

All the kids in the neighborhood are gonna want one of those! I really love those tips. 8)
-
Thanks Jawge
Thanks Jeff, yah those tips are pretty small was hard to hold those ebony overlays while I was working on them. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to keep string on but they seem to work fine.

Thats a cool bow! Nice job!

Great job BJ. You sure know how to use all of the wood. Good on you for helping the kids. Gotta start 'em young. Before they find girls and cars.

Nice work BJ.

Thanks Carl
Thanks Jerry it had more character than I'm use to working with. The worst was a huge horizontal limb about 6 rings down. It was a real roller coaster but just amazing how a person can manipulate this Osage. Especially when it's this thin.
Thanks Mike, Dell and Will
Kyle I kinda think the girls outnumber the boys in our 4-H group but it's close. Funny when I was their age girls had coties. Now they work and play together pretty good. Must have found a vaccine for that.
Thanks Pappy

That's a great looking little bow! The tiller is very nice, also. Nice one.

Thanks Steve
This is picture of where the side split came from. The wood had to come off anyway.

BJ....I know it might be a bit early to know for sure but do you think those osage you planted are making it?
-
Ed I haven't looked at them since early winter, but I have every reason to think they did. PNewton gave me several Osage apples that I have in water and will mush up making a solution to plant in a seed trench. He lives fairly close to me and said that how he planted his about fifteen years ago and now they are big enough he's getting fruit. I'll let you know no leaves on any trees here yet.

Nice work bj

Nice, little bow, Brian. You nailed the Tiller. That bow could be a fun rabbit thumper.
-
Sweet, looks cool.
-
Neat little bow, BJ. You got it well over 15" in that pic, Id say its safe for a kid :)
-
Thanks Aaron
Thanks Eddie I'm thinking the same thing about the wabbits
Thanks wooddamon1
Thanks Chris I'd say it's closer to 20" in the picture and I held it there long enough to take three pictures. It still has nice cast at 15" which seems closer to the young ones draw length. Still going to need some adult supervision though.
Thanks everyone for looking

Both are good looking bows
-
Great job on those bows!
-
nice work!

Thanks Badger. I finished sanding the other bow last night and put a coat of tru oil on it. I've been hoping the weather would get nicer to get some bows photographed, but that hasn't happened yet.
Thanks Redhand. I really wasn't sure I'd get anything out of this stave. After looking really hard I thought I might see two. This Osage is amazing stuff. I think the second one I'm going to call "Walking Stick" cause Frank told me there might not be a bow in there but it'll make a nice walking stick.
Thanks springbuck
