Title: Milkweed pod season!
Post by: Stickhead on June 19, 2018, 07:25:34 pm: This is my favorite wild veggie, and it’s peaking now in VA. Snip ‘em, rinse and boil ‘em. A little salt and butter, and you can’t beat ‘em. (Just leave some buds for the Monarch butterflies.)

I boiled twice.
tasted like a cross between wax beans and asparagus.
added butter and a touch of minced garlic.
delicious!!

i know that the sap is bitter.
i done it to make sure it was all gone from the pods.
unfortunatlly i think the pods are too far along to do this now.
next year i will definatelly try this again and try only boiling once.

Post by: tattoo dave on July 06, 2018, 07:26:46 am: So, I had some last night. Only boiled once, but did soak them in cold water for about 5 minutes. No bitter taste. They were yummy. I have 2 daughters, one is suspicious of darn near everything I put on the table, the other is more than happy to eat experimental foods with me. She loved them, said they were yummy and will eat them again.

If I verload real bad, I have a friend who feeds her dogs raw food, and they like zucchini!. Won't be foraging much with the bum knee, but there is a bunch of choke cherries just down the road!

I love asparagus and if it taste anything like asparagus I had to try it. I don't think it's exactly like asparagus, but it is pretty tasty. Even my daughter thought it was good.
