I have read about recommended arrow weights for different bows, namely 9 or 10 grains per pound depending on the bow.
Is that recommendation supposed to be the bare shaft weight or the final weight including the weight of the arrowhead/point?

Total weight :) The bow doesn't care what it's pushing, just how much.

Got it. I found I could work with it either way. I just want to settle on something to be consistent.
I would like my "arsenal" to be focused on small game shooting. I started off with carbon arrows that are 380g including 125g tip.
You can imagine how different it must be to go from that to a ~550g+ yaupon arrow. Fortunately I draw 27" so that leaves some room to cut them shorter.
To complicate it, I recently built an arrow with less-desirable-but-plentiful running bamboo that shoots fast like carbon. I'm starting to think my ideal 425g arrows for a 45# bow will be more easily reached with the bamboo than with the yaupon.
