It's damp and chilly today so I thought I would warm up the kitchen.
I piled a bunch of jasper, Mexican Green obsidian, Flint River, and a chunk
of Coastal Plains into the pans with sand and will ramp up fast in oven to 500f.
About 5 hrs or so then slowly drop temp to 320f then shut off to cool. (=) (=)

Obsidian?

Jeb I wondered about that to, but I remember Zuma saying he had some poorer quality green Obsidian that he could improve by cooking it.
It's a bit on the cool side here to Zuma. Was to a outside Birthday party last night and the long sleeves and jacket really wasn't enough. Just a few days earlier it was almost 90 with unbearable humidity. I don't mind looking for another jacket.

If that is the case then I wonder how it turns out BJ as I have some black obsidian that is crap.

Steve Nissley turned me on to it. I had an 80# spall I bought at the Ridge in 2015.
It was dried out and horrible to knap. I have cooked it several times and there was
marked improvement. Works on dried out Dacite also, I have a couple threads about it.
Bj I crutched down to the local picknick in a hoody and jacket yesterday afternoon brrrr

Don't even mind it cooling down a bit but the days are getting shorter. Still dark at 6:00am and suns gone by 8:00 pm.
-
BJ just remember that the deer will be coming out to the grass sooner :D
Here is a link that has a bit about that tough obsidian.

Every thing turned out great, Dacite too. :)
Actual time six hours. :) :KN The Mexican obsidian, I think needs only 400 degrees. (=)
It abrades well and the flakes are smooth but there is a tendency to lop to easily. :-K

It took kid gloves to coax this one out of the Mexican Green. O:)
It started as a 1.5" thick brick :-K

That's a sweet point there Zuma. Doesn't look like a brick anymore.

That is a nice one Zuma. Those bricks and rounds are the hardest pieces to get much out of.

Thanks BJ and Chip,
You are correct Chip. :)
Since this piece was so thick
it may have helped it by not getting quite as hot as the thinner pieces. (=)
Plus it forced me to thin it a lot lengthwise.
If I can get a decent platform on a corner I can usually
stitch the edges from one side to the other creating ridges
and thinning the edges. O:)

Nice looking point, got to get to chipping some rocks after I get the bow finished and some arrows made Sorry to hear the knee isn't repairable. Maybe a shot of "Joint Juice" would help, it's supposed to provide lubricant similar to the cartilage and regular fluids. Don't know the technical term for it, but it seems to work pretty good.

Knee replacement surgery?
-
Joint juice or Gold shots didn't do my knee any good. The total replacement did, though.
-
Thanks Dancer
Ryan, been working on replacement for two years. I did the gel
deal back then. Made things worse(shifted the angle of the bones
so that they made worse contact.)
Going to my oncologist today to try and find out why they rejected
me for the knee replacement. Never ends once they get you hooked.

From what I’ve learned in my schools med classes, I’m pretty sure oncologists deal with cancer, don’t you need a rheumatologist instead? I don’t know the context though so I’m probably wrong.
-
Ryan Yeah it's a long story. They did a ct scan on my chest just
before I was scheduled for my knee replacement.
They found things that need attention by the oncologist. Yuck
