Title: bowyers or wannabe bowyers in Ohio
Post by: RobbH on October 29, 2018, 04:09:36 pm
Looking to get a group of like minded folks together to make some bows, arrows and bounce ideas off of. Maybe do some shooting/hunting.
Come with whatever knowledge you have or don't have. Id love to learn what you know and willing to share what little I know.
I'm in Columbus/Grove City Ohio area and there seems to be a scarcity of bow makers around these parts.
I can drive OR offer my shop as a place to meet... and tools to use.

These informal gatherings can be great time!  Wish western South Dakota wasn't so far away.

I agree. You can get to know some great people and learn a lot from them.

And a trip from the Dakotas would be slightly insane.

Thanks for the response. I hope it encourages some other folks.

I tried two bow bees early on. On the first one I had a couple of bow builders besides me and the rest newbies. The newbies would watch us work but even when offered a stave and some tools they backed off, saying "I might mess something up". I tried again with the same results.

A great bow maker and friend hosted one, he had a bunch rubberneckers but no workers, he was very disappointed as he but a lot not putting the event together.

I get it.
Seems no one is interested. Guess I'll be heading out of state for some bow making fun

Keep an eye on the "Shoots and Events" section. Beginning in late Jan and early Feb (sometimes sooner) things will begin to pop.

Yes. Not sure that I have much knowledge worth sharing, but like to meet other bow builders and work on bows and fling a few arrows.

I have never made a selfbow yet, I did make a red oak board bow once and I've made several laminated fiberglass bows. I'm hoping to do a trilam later this spring....wouldn't mind getting together after it warms up lol.
