Title: Pictures from my bow building workshop
Post by: Weylin on November 12, 2018, 08:39:04 pm
I just finished a great bow building workshop this weekend. My local traditional archery club generously allowed me to use their property and clubhouse to teach my class. We had four students and they did an outstanding job on their bows. Their work exceeded my expectations. They finished their bows early so we were able to indulge in some finish work that I hadn't officially planned on. The results were some lovely bows. They all managed to hit their desired draw weight as well as an added bonus. I will definitely be doing this again. I had a blast.

Congratulations to you and the guys!  One weekend? I only needed about a year to get mine done completely!  Got to wait for a warm up to get pictures.  Great looking bows, too.

Thanks for sharing with us. Thanks for sharing with them. I've had several people contact me hoping I'd do a class. I'm planning on giving it a try. I can only hope it goes as good as yours. I could probably use a few tips. Nice job Weylin.

Thanks, Stephen. I should have been more clear. It was a four day class.  :)

Thanks! You should do it. It was a lot of fun. I've been planning and accumulating tools for a while now. I picked Carson's brain a lot since he's been doing these for a while. I'm happy to share ideas with you. just let me know.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on the Strunk wraps but they had time and asked very nicely. The only thing more stressful than making a Strunk wrap is helping four people do it at the same time!

Your photography skills work just as well for human subjects as they do for bows!  I really like the sixth one down, with the gentleman leaning back to contemplate the next step.  That's probably what I look like 95% of the time I am building bows...anyway, they all turned out great!

Seeing some of your videos, tell me you are a good teacher!
Hope you didn't show them your bows, nevertheless they would be disappointed or maybe motivated!

Thanks for the support, y'all. It was definitely a good time.

is the younger guy in the blue shirt a blacksmith? he looks just like a guy that puts blacksmithing videos on youtube.

Good eye. That is John Norwood of Old Hickory Forge. He happened to live in the town next to the venue. He does incredible smithing work. He made a knife for one of the other participants and it was beautiful and wicked sharp. He is trading me a viking axe for a set of arrows to go with the bow he made. I can't wait to go pillaging with it.  >:D

I didnt see any yew bows... why not? >:D

Looks like a good time.

I don't have any yew staves! I don't know what you're talking about.  ::)  :-X

Lol I didn't read any of it and thought it was a single day, I thought "wow.... I'm slow".

Great work Weylin!

You did a great job as it appears they learned how to make a proper bow.  I need to learn to do a grip like that.  excellent...  :OK
