I finally made the trip to a big river cane patch today. I brought home more than 2 dozen shafts. I pulled a couple smaller ones out of the ground and transplanted them in my yard for the winter. If they are alive in the spring I'm moving them to the a field at work.

Nice haul! There should more than a few darts in there!! No cane in Colorado that I know of, darn it!

Nice haul Clint!
Hawk, if you are interested in some river cane I might just be able to fix you up at mojam.

SWEET (AT) ! Bob

Awesome. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
-
Good haul Clint. They look really nice and straight.

Patrick,
That is an offer I can't refuse! Maybe some in both arrow size and atlatl size! Looking forward to MoJam, hopefully a bit less heat and not all the rain at once! I will probably have another bow in progress by that time as well.

Maybe we'll have to cast a few together at Marshall Clint. Nice look cane.

Sounds good BJ. My first one there will be cast towards the guy who ripped me off on an atlatl trade last year at Marshall.

Maybe leave nasty deposits in his mess kit would be more legal, Clint! Of course, accidental misdirected casts are hard to prove as hostile!

Didn't hear about that. Sure is a shame that someone ripped you off Clint. Can't think of anybody who's been more generous and put more into a good trade than you. I know a few others come pretty close, but you are on the top of my list for good traders. I really like trading with ksnow to. We just seem to like the same stuff.

is it river cane or switch cane that makes the best darts?
-
Nice haul Clint, just be careful where you plant, it will take over if not careful and keep a good eye on it.

Good haul and like pappy said, it will spread. I had to soak all of mine in Roundup to get rid of it. I got a call from Dick Bernier the other day, some of y'all will remember him from the old days. He said he was going to start shipping me about a pick up load of cane after Christmas.
-
I want to plant it at work. It was a big river bottom farm that they are letting grow up. They haven't mowed the fields in a couple of years. It won't hurt anything if it spreads there.

Eddie, You should have gotten the first box of the 48" cane by now. I got enough of the stuff to fill the 6' box and will be sending it this week. I am also filling another 48" box for the following week. Don’t worry about not using some of it because there is a bunch here you will be able to pick from. :)
The shoots of the Japanese cane was given to me by Don Ward, an archery dealer here in Mebane. Over the past 8 years it has grown like rabbits breading. If I come down to see my son in Tampa in the spring I will put a BUNCH in the truck. It makes really nice arrows and darts. Later
