Title: 12 oz. curl
Post by: bjrogg on January 17, 2019, 11:32:32 am
It's been awhile since I posted a bow. I've got a bunch I need to take pictures of but it's cold outside and my phone has to many pictures on it and I had to delete a bunch to take anymore.

I got this stave from Clint at Marshall this year. It was on the shorter side about 54". Fits me good. I was going to make a stiff handle but had just finished a really sweet bend through the handle that I really like. I decided to make this one bendy to. I took it hunting several times late season doe but didn't get a shot. It's nothing fancy. Osage bendy with white tail Antler overlays and wrapped handle with leather from a old coat someone gave me. It's around 48 @ 24" but can be drawn a bit more.
I haven't hunted from it yet but have practiced shooting it from pop up blind. I do like the size and it's incredibly light. Came in at exactly 12 oz. before I wrapped handle and put on overlays. Hence the name 12 oz. curl for all you adult beverage drinkers out there. If I don't give this one away I'll be hunting with it next season. Not the greatest pictures but better than none.
Bjrogg
PS you also get a little tease about another project I've been working on. My "presentation pole". Needed something to display my stuff when people ask me to do a presentation. I really like it and have lots of additional features to add.

Very nice, definitely has that BJ look about it. You make some nice looking bows. That presentation pole is nice also. Gives me some ideas....

Very nice bjrogg!  I like this style of bow a lot.  I love the simplicity of it and like you mention it feels like you are carrying a feather around.
Nice bend and I like the recurves  :OK

Thanks Dylan, it's been there several times already. I was making this one to give to someone but I'm liking it a lot. I can always make another one I like a lot though. I do like shooting it in confined area though.

Thanks Kyle. You make some really cool stuff to. I like your style and look forward to seeing you at Marshall again. I really like my presentation pole. It's very adaptable and I've got lots of ideas for hanging more stuff from it. You'll be seeing more of it.

Thanks Ben. I to like the simplicity, maneuverability and feather light feel of it. I need to tune some shorter arrows to her to really take advantage of it.

Thanks Bassman. You do to. Nice to see you here. Been enjoying your contributions.
Thanks hoosierf

Thanks Pearl. That's probably a pretty good description. Not to fancy, but not to shabby. Glad to see you here to.

That turned out great BJ.  I like the bendy design with the curved tips.  Looks like it would make a good turkey hunting bow.

Thanks Badger. I've been doing better holding profiles now. Gotta keep learning and tweaking things.

Thanks Clint. I'm really hoping to get to turkey hunt this spring with her. That's why I was practicing from the pop up.

Nice bow.  Full draw profile looks really good

Thanks Marc. It really helped looking at your beautiful bends. I'm probably not quite there. But I am getting closer

Thanks Bill. I'm sure hoping you get to see it bend at Marshall. I'll have it there if all goes as planned.

Thanks Steve. Yourself, Clint and I are all on the same page

Thanks DC.

Thanks Jeff. So far I haven't had much time for turkey hunting and I've never been anywhere close to close. Hoping I get more time and a pop up blind helps

Thanks Bob
Bjrogg

PS this bow has the flattest back I've ever seen. I don't remember if it was a belly split but it has zero crown.

Beautiful tiller and profile. This one really inspires me to make a shortish bendy too!

Neuse. Thanks I'm really pretty excited about the presentation pole.

Thanks Pappy nothing fancy but it'll fling a arrow.

Thanks sidewinder. My feeling exactly.

Thanks Jawge

Thanks Mike I'm actually more excited about the presentation pole. I can't wait to use it at a event

12 oz is about spot on with the mass formula.

Thanks ohma2

Steve I honestly don't know the mass formula, but I'd guess it was right. I don't think this bow has much if any extra wood.

Thanks bubbyb
Thanks Rps3

You take it turkey hunting it should make the feathers fly.

Is it just the length that makes you guys say it would be good for turkey hunting?

Love it BJ... been wantin to build a bendy curve for awhile.
Title: Re: 12 oz. curl
Post by: bjrogg on January 19, 2019, 03:30:06 pm
Thanks Rob. It'll make the turkey feathers on my arrows fly anyhow.

DC that's why I was thinking about turkey hunting with it. I've done very little turkey hunting, but from what I understand it's really nice to have a blind. I can shoot this one fairly comfortably from a pop up.

Thanks Stix. I think you should give one a try.

Bjrogg- lovely work buddy!  Maybe i missed this but where do you do presentations and what types?  Primitive events, archery shoots?

Northheart, just local stuff. I did a youth mentoring day put on by one of our local sportsmans clubs. They asked me to come back this year. I am doing a presentation in March for our local conservation club. I've done a little presentation for cub scouts. After doing one and accumulating more stuff I thought it would be nice to have a better way to display everything then just piling it on a table. I really enjoyed doing the ones I have so far.

Lovely little curl and perfect tiller as always - for my eyes it's my favorite bow of yours since I'm here at pa. Please don't stop doing and posting bows! Cheers

That is awesome.  No matter how large or small the event may seem, you might be making a big impact in someones life without even realizing it.  Especially with youth and even adults who have interest in bows, but need you to ignite that fire and get them on the right track.

Oh, and may i "borrow" your design for a "mini bgrogg" bow rack for my events too.... ;)

Thanks simk. I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. I do have a bunch I really need to post. I do tend to get sidetracked on other projects it that keeps it interesting for me.

Thanks northheart I know I could be influencing someone. Someone once influenced me. It's a lot of answering the same questions over and over, it's interesting see the surprise on each face.

Thanks Andy. I've been working on the stave I got from Wyatt in the trade blanket at Marshall. I just got it strung yesterday. It's going to be a very interesting bow. My Photobucket is locked up so it might e awhile before I can post some pictures.
Thanks slimbob, I like the profiles to. It's a very nice shooter.
