Spring is, hopefully, just around the corner. With that, its time for the Wisconsin Self Bow Jam.
It is April 13 and 14 this year. You can set up Friday the 12th.
The event is at Ojibwa Bowhunters, New Berlin, WI.
Its a nice event coinciding with a big traditional shoot. There is a lot of emphasis on beginning bowyers.
Saturday night is a buffet.
Let's hope for better weather this year, we sure don't need 18 inches of snow in April again.

Looks like lots of room Kyle. I hope the weather is nice for you guys. April can be anything around here. Hoping to be planting sugarbeets by then but you never know.

There is plenty of room to work, that's for sure. Camping depends on the weather. Last year was knee deep snow, mud and water.

I'll have to keep that in mind. only looks to be an hour and a half or so from where I'm at

Dang, I am booked that weekend! I am hoping to make somebody's event this year and this is one of the closest.
-
I wouldn't mind teaching you badgers how to do it right, if I can get the time. That is the same weekend there is a big streamer fishing contest on the Au Sable in Grayling. I cant miss that.

JW - There is a bowjam in Montana again this year, that's gotta be as close as WI to you.
PD - Your wisdom would be welcome here on this shore of the big puddle. Plus, there's a lot of cheese and beer.

I love beer, I love cheese and I love bratwurst. Not much separates us except the water :)

Not by a whole lot!

That sure looks like a fun one, but thats a busy weekend around the elephant barn this year. Maybe next year.
-
Wow I'd love to come up there for that weekend. I'll have to check out the logistics.

Dang, not enough lead time! Haven't seen or heard anything about Montana, but that is a 2 day drive from here in Colorado! On the other hand, most anywhere is a 2 day drive!

Be nice to see some new faces there. Its really geared towards teaching new people to make bows, but more experience would really make it great. There is plenty of room to work. Power is available under the shelter. There's a band saw on site.

What's the weather looking like Kyle. Artic sonic boom vortex.
Winds out of the North and off the big lake here today. Doesn't feel near as nice as it does in August.

That went over us yesterday, though up north got much worse than we did. I ended up with a few inches of heavy, wet snow and we are supposed to get rain all day today. Tomorrow looks nice, if a bit chilly for this time of year. Then more rain and snow mix for Sunday.
-
That boom cyclone left us with 5 - 8" of heavy wet snow, but we are supposed to have 65 degrees by Sunday, which means more mud for the dogs to bring in! And a work day to get the muzzle loading range ready for Squirrel Shoot, 26-28 April! Come on out! It's only a 2 day drive! (lol)
Kevin, do you know who is putting on the Montana jam? Thanks,

We will have to add this one to our list for next year.

OK guys, don't forget the pics. Have fun! :OK

Hey Kyle, how'd it go. Sure hope it was nicer weather in your neck of the woods than mine.

It was good. As usual, I forgot to take pictures. Weather was cold and windy, but the shelter kept us out of it. I stayed busy on the band saw roughing out bows for the new people. We had around a dozen folks learning for their first time and a few for their second time. Lots of learning going on. I was only able to stay for Saturday, Sunday turned icy, rainy and snowy fairly early in the morning.
I didn't shoot the course at all, but it looked like a lot of fun, even if the mud was ankle deep. There was also atlatl throwing going on.
After two years with snow/blizzards, I hope the weather is better next year.
-
Glad it worked out Kyle. Looked like a nice place to work on projects. The days are getting longer. Summer is coming. Its always hard to remember pictures when your having fun.

Early April is a tough time of the year in the great north. It can be 70 and sunny or 20 with 8" of snow.
