I've been going nuts waiting for seasoned yew. Finally, I've recovered 6 half-logs. Had to wait for dry conditions to make it up the mountain to my seasoning station. This is everything I've got that was cut/split a year or more ago. I guess there ought to be up to a dozen staves in there.

Gorgeous looking stuff. )W( 8)
-
Thanks yes it's gorgeous.
I had time today to make the first split
-
Looks like time to make some shavings.
Bjrogg :BB

Mighty fine. Yes sir. Mighty fine
-
Thanks guys. Yep, time to get behind the mule
-
Man, id give my left two lug nuts for two staves of that stuff!
-
Here's the pile partially staved out
-
The ones one the right with the white streaks, that's a single branch. The white is rot, it was rotting from the inside which is a well documented thing in yew.
The rest is from a single log. Far left are the two inner heartwood halves. When I split it right after cutting, the whole thing separated along a ring rather cleanly.

That would concern me. It may be nothing but I would double check the rest of the log to see that it's solid.
-
Agreed, and it appears to be sound. I'll get some pics to show what I can see close up
-
Here's what's still left to cut. If I stopped now, I've got 14 staves, it looks like I'll get at least 7 more

Instead of saying Woo Hoo you should have Yew Hew.
-
Yew Hew. That's funny. That would be a good name for a bow.
-
holy thread resurrection batman
-
Yewhew!!!

Now I’m not saying that it WILL explode on yah. But I would be a bit weary about any wood that delaminates like that. Usually caused from wind shake. That being said, the wood has great color. I would just suggest that when you’re tillering instead of going half speed, maybe go a bit slower and be ahead of ANY slight of a weak spot.
I like the split each limb into 7 even sections and get that taper real nice, feel it out over and over and over with your fingers like calipers and I have no doubt you’ll get some bows from that batch.
Have fun, looking forward to seeing some wood bend 👍🏼

Thanks Bryce! I'll heed your advice
