Nice one sir!
-
very nice bow.
is it safe to sinew BL? will not be too much stress on the belly?
I also like your arrows :OK
-
sinew and black locust is a winning combination... it was my hunting bow this past year. Yours looks like a shooter for sure... :OK
-
Pat B my wife gave me the thin cloth backing.May be silk. I,m not sure.I applied it with Tb 3, painted it,and used Shellac ,and poly for finish, because it is sinew backed with hide glue.DC,Brad,Slimbob ,and Bob B. when I get the thumbs up from you guys I know I,m headed in the right direction. The belly of the bow was heat treated.I got 4 bows from that log. The other bows are self bows 62 inches long ,and give or take 45 lbs. at 26 inches. It was laying along side the road. Power Co. cut it down.I had to quarter it right were it laid so I could load it on my truck.Good find.

Glis what Bob Barnes said.
-
That's a nice little bow, Bob. Bet she shoots good, too. Like those arrows. Can't go wrong with finding wood on the side of the road to make a bow. They've been doing alot of cutting in my area but all the wood I see is already cut into firewood size pieces.
-
Yes ,Steve I was lucky to run into that log.Hollow in the middle, but good wood on the outside. It had nice growth rings.Never made one from Yew , but after Osage, Black locust is my favorite bow wood. With heat treat ,and careful tillering it can make a nice bow.

Awww that's pretty!!
Amazing what the wood can take when done properly! I do have some sinew but I think I'll use it on a stave with less kinks and shoot for 24" for my first BL.
Again, well done Bassman!
-
Thanks to all you guys.Makes me feel like part of your fraternity.
-
Now I like that!
-
Very nice! I like it. Jawge

My kinda bow there! Nicely done.
On the tips where its painted black it appears to almost has a cross-weave pattern. At first i thought it was fabric of some kind, but is that where you wrapped the sinew with bandage?
-
No, Northheart it is some kind of fabric that my wife had laying around. It is all I had at the time. Your Teal bow is a beauty. You also make some very nice horn bows. Very nice craftsmanship like so many others on this site.
-
Nicely done bassman! A shorty is on my list too! Working on some BL right now- will be much longer cause it's spliced...
Again lovely bow!

I have a soft spot for pin nocks, I think they are the most efficient design...I really like the shape, balance and bend you have while holding in hand...A+

Thank you B2W, and Don. First 3 bows I made from Bl were failures. Crushed the belly on one, and broke the back on two.Wood had really thin growth rings.I learned from that, and lucked into a good log, and made a total of four successful bows.Bow building can be humbling, but when successful rewarding.
-
I like this one! Excellent bend, colors look great!
-
Bends beautifully!
-
The arrows sticking in the target are flight arrows that broke tuning a bow. The arrows I shoot the red one,s They are made from Spice Bush, and Wild Choke Cherry, stone heads, and turkey feathers.

Great bow.
