Title: The last of my cholla
Post by: bjrogg on August 07, 2019, 08:43:37 am
Jeb gifted me some cholla the first time I met him. I used it all but this one piece I've been saving for just the right blade. I think I found it. It's another white Carra Glass blade. Starting to really like this stuff and getting my grove back. This one is mostly percussion. Just a little pressure to sharpen it up. Cholla handle with a button made from a piece of wood a neighbor gave me. It was very dense and he said it came from the desert. I thought it fit the cholla great.
Hope you like it. Thanks for looking

PS thanks for the cholla Jeb

Thanks Jerry. I like working with both. Cholla isn't around here though so it's kinda special for me. It looks cool to.

Jeb I'd sure like to go with you but I think they'd miss me back home. I hope you have a great time.

Nice work, BJ. I have some cholla that Jon sent me too. It is very cool stuff and who would of thought it came from a cactus.

Did you fill it?

Still have some from my last trip back to the Superstitions. Gotta get busy making some handles. John

No John I didn't. I've toyed with the idea of making a removable button and making handle store something like a survival knife.  Maybe some cordage, fishing line and hooks. Probably not the that practical but might be kinda cool. I clean all the lose stuff out of the inside. I do file the cholla down to the shape that feels good in my hand.

On the bone dagger I made for the knife trade I did fill the inside of the cholla. I stuffed the center with cotton first then filled the outer void with the JB Weld I use to haft the blade then smoothed it all down. Seemed to work well.

I like the idea of the cotton, then remove to make a secret compartment. You guys keep making more projects for "the List" that real life and not enough hours in a day keep getting in my way.

I am such a simplton that I just put a dowel down the middle and inlay the holes with stone. John

Some wrap the cholla with a clear wrap then fill the center with colored epoxy.
