Title: HHB Flatbow 65" ntn 45# @ 26" "Dawn"
Post by: Deerhunter21 on August 21, 2019, 07:51:02 pm
this bow is a HHB flatbow with what i think is beautiful character. it pulls 45# at 26" its  65"ntn and 67 ttt. this bow is my first stave bow, the form was given to me by bjrogg at the marshalls. I finished (mostly) there with the exeption of a finish and the tips. i was planning to put tip overlays on it but i never got around to it. it has taken a inch of set throughout the bow.  im really proud of the bow. Thanks to Bjrogg, Pearly, Dvshunter, Ryoon, and anyone else that helped for helping me with the bow. any tips you guys can give? where its stiff? Thanks!

Looks like you hit what you were looking at Russell.  I was wondering how that one was coming along.

Pictures are a bit blurry but looks like the brace height might be a bit low. Could probably put about ten twists in the string and check it again. How are you doing stringing it now?

I can't tell from pictures for sure but it looks to me like handle is still full width with just a arrow shelf cut in? You can very safely narrow that handle up make it fit you grip. Maybe you'd like to practice shaping a handle on a scrap piece of wood.

Was nice meeting you and your dad.

Bj, i will definentially put some more twists in it. the string dosnt like to stay on when not braced, so it falls off and unwinds. I can now string it with ease! its Amazing! I dont know what to do with the handle because the handle is shaped with the right side tapering down and the left side thick. I think i have some ideas though! I also got asked to show it, which i explained in the what did you do today thread.

Slimbob, Thanks! the TBB really helped with my knowlege! ill be getting it back to you in a week, ill pm you when its on its way.

Umm just got done shooting for today and the top limb went from having 1-1.5" of set to now 2"? i feel like its bending too much in the fades? maybe its just taking set but 2" and i want to see if its my fault. is there a point where the set stopps if theres a weak point or does it keep growing? Its right where the bump is right out of the fades.
Title: Re: HHB Flatbow 65" ntn 45# @ 26" top limb tiller check please?
Post by: Deerhunter21 on August 22, 2019, 08:31:25 pm
now that I look at it and if you cover the bump up its bending more than it should. there is a concave part on the belly opposite to where the bump is. :(

I don't think that bow looks very stressed and I like the bend Russell. I don't remember how much correction I had to do on that one when I put it on my straightening caul. I have a hard time getting HHB  to keep everything after straightening. I have much better luck with Osage in that area. You might be losing some of the heat correction I originally gave it. Hard to say. At any rate I don't think I'd lose any sleep over it.

whew! thats good! now to finish the arrow Trade! i found out how i like to shoot. i thought i was a one over, two under but i dont do so good with that, so i moved the arrow closer to my eye by doing 3 under and lowered the nocking point. changed my life.

Cool bow!
I started with 3 under but feel way better now split fingered. Sometimes the bow shoots better 3 under. Just try out a lot and when you've found out what works out best try to copy every shot.
Cheers

Tiller looks good. Wind an elastic over the loop on the bottom nock so the string  doesn't come off. Jawge

I meant to tell you that to Russell. You can keep your string from falling off when it's unbraced by wrapping  a rubber band around the tip of the limb that your string always stays on. It won't interfere with how the bow works at all and it won't fall off the tip. Just always string bow from the other tip. I actually use those castration rubber bands. They work really well. I've even used O rings before.

could i get a pic? do you wrap it around the nock? the loops are really big and they can travel up to the handle. how can i fix this. do i need to re twist it?

Just put a rubber band around it. Just like you would put one around a news paper. Wait...that is a reference that may not apply to today’s youth. Ever wrapped your sisters pony tail?  Same thing.

Heres a couple pictures Russell. It's very simple, just hard to explain. Then you just always stringing bow from other limb.

PS newspaper did article about the three sisters day I was asked to set up a display. Kinda makes me smile again seeing all those kids looks on their faces.

Thankyou Hoosierf, HHB is going in my #1 spot out of the few woods Ive worked with, lets see if it stays after i work with the peice of osage i have, maybe i can get 3 out of it like bj. it will need to be pretty exact splitting though!

thanks josh, I wish i could identify HHB, still trying to identify osage! if i find some i will save you a stave!

thanks Bradsmith

Thanks for the tip George!

Thanks for the Picture Bj! their faces in the newspaper is pure joy!
