Title: Bald Eagle
Post by: BrianS on September 16, 2019, 07:20:58 am
I was fishing and watched a bald eagle attempt to catch a duck. I was able to video it (not the best video but it all happened very fast). Here is the link to the video. The eagle is at around 6:20 in the video.

Nice video Brian. Feels like I spent the morning fishing.

I've always wondered if the Eagles around here took any ducks or geese.

I was hunting Ducks in the mid 70's and as I walked up to a lake a Bald Eagle took off from the bay I was working my way to screaming in anger.  He circled a couple times then left.  When I got to the edge of the water I looked out and there was a log sticking out of the water about 50 yards out from shore and on top of that log was a half eaten Duck so yes they do take down Ducks

I wonder if they take Canadian Geese? I know geese don't like swans.

I've watched them eating a house cat.

They are very efficient at catching ducks, especially if they hunt as a pair. I have a series of pictures of a pair hunting a Merganser. I'll see if I can find them. They take turns diving at the duck to keep it under water. They exhaust the duck and grab it.

Hope you don't mind Brian. I had to find and resize these. I picked the best that I could. In the third picture you can just see the ripples where the duck ducked in the lower right hand corner.

Those are some fantastic pictures DC. Make mine look like they were taken from my phone through my dirty tractor windows while I was brush hogging my trail. Oh yah, that's because it's what I was doing. I have a pair that hang around this big dead cottonwood. There is a reason they say eagle eyes. They don't miss anything. They most always have a eye on me.
