You can post what your working on here.

Here's my project. Ash backed ipe. It's only 61" long so I'm hoping for the draw length my guy is. Cant really say without giving it away. It will have a riser. I'll be sending this and some knife scales probably. Providing this bow survives. It should though. Ipe is some great bow wood
-
(-P sorry I didn't get in everyone. We had some big changes in our operation in the past year and it's left me even more work than normal. I really hated to miss the Christmas trade but I know I have to.

Merry Christmas
-
Thinking about a stand or a quiver for my guy. Maybe a knife or a leather thing. Dont know alot about my guy
-
I've got 2 bows I'm working on. One is a 60" R/D and the other one is 57"
Reflex bend through the handle. Both are ash backed Ipe. The bend through the handle has a 5/16" ash backing. I'm thinking that is too thick so I was thinking of putting a thinner piece of ash and doing a tri lam R/D.

I’m torn between being really happy for the recipients and being a bit jealous!
I’ve got a start on my gift, but I’m not really ready to show anything yet.

Whats everyone been doing? i've had a hard time with mine so i slaved over finding something flintknapping in Nebraska and i came up with a blog. contacted the guy and has told me about the rock here... surprise! there's barely any! only Nehawk chert, (way tough) and niobrerra (rock?, yes i know my facts! :-[ ::) well kinda, its only by the river) hes hooked me up with a guy in my city and i will hopefully be able to meet with him or otherwise ask him questions.

Not all of its good flintknapping material, and some comes too small to flintknap but this is a HUGE step!

Still trying to find things after Little Fiddle Woman led a yard and shed cleaning party while I was in LaLa Land after knee surgery. I do have an idea, just have to get to the saws and do some fitting!

What's everyone been working on
-
Got sent some pre shaped stuff, have an antler that had maybey 3 handles in it, gonna need to shape it more and thin some stuff down.
-
One of a couple of things I'm working on. The body is from a piece of Russian olive I hollowed out. I've never done this with rawhide lacing, always took the easy way out with production cordage. I think I'll make a couple of tomtom's from some Apache plume.
I have something else I'm working on but need to make some more progress before pics.

Nice stuff you guys are working on

Here's item #2. Just finished sanding the blade and did the glue up. Hope my guy feels special since I don't hand finish the steel often on account of it aggravates my bad shoulder, but in this case what's a few bags of ice and sleepless nights compared to a lifetime of joy?
AEB-L rough dressed in what I think is stabilized mango. Will update after shaping the handle. The dog thought I was withholding a treat for him.

When my person sends the package can they pm trapper to pm me? i want to make sure that it makes it here safely.
-
Russell, when your gifter mails his surprise to you he can let you know himself if you want a notification.
-
Pat it's going to be hard not to open that box
-
It already is, Rob. ::)
-
I just want to make sure it is able to get here safely and that i can get it off my porch as quickly as possible so nobody decides they want another present! Yeah good luck waiting to open that Pat! but i believe in you! ;D
-
Im gonna be done now. I want to be able to get my guy a really good thing but im not there yet. gonna throw in some raw materials to make up for that. will get some pics before i send it in december
-
Because my recipient knows who he is, I’m not posting pictures. But I’m at work on something that will be really cool if it comes out right.
If not, I’ll send the backup present and just claim it is the cool one!
I’m only posting so my guy knows he isn’t forgotten.
Patrick

Ok guys in 15 days we can start shipping

Hawkdancer
-
This is a really cool tradition, guys. How do I get in on it next year?
T
-
when the christmas trade sign up starts next year say im in. There are lots of other trades too.
-
Hopefully, Trapper Tom will post it about early September or so! Maybe we can start a better late than never trade for procrastinators, if you are in!
Hawkdancer
-
Maybe so! I don't really have a good work space at the moment, so building stuff on any sort of time table is like pulling teeth, but hopefully that will be changing in the next few months...
T
-
We'll start a new thread for shipped & received
-
Raw materials aren't very romantic until they are received! The box could give away too much! Btw,
The post office is open tomorrow, so I may ship after the shoot!

This is one of my gifts. Not my best but it is my first knife. More of a wall hanger or displayer. The tip kept breaking and im not a good sharpenet but i hope my guy likes it.
-
Got my package today and my guy, who can no longer hide behind anonymity, put alot of rhought in to it.
Thanks!
So there's some shafting that I'm not familiar with, a buck skin pouch, natural fletching, half a circular saw blade along with trade point stencils and the beloved Napa hacksaw blades, a couple of wood scales, and the strangest arrow straightener made from a section of automotive leaf spring ;D(already toying with some knife ideas)

Since Trapper Rob is my recipient (and he knows it already), I'm just going to put a link to pictures. He can wait until it arrives if he wants to have a surprise.
Got that, Rob? If you click the link, it isn't my fault if you ruin your own surprise!

The "new project" is my gift. Not huge, but I was really pleased with my results, so I hope Rob is, too.

I’m a bit confused, from the list, I should be getting a package from Mr Woolery, but from the last post I’m not sure who tho is from, as it didn’t have a name on it.
I’m unfortunately unable to post pics.
I received a package in the mail today. I kinda feel bad about opening it since I haven’t shipped yet, I will ship soon.
I first noticed a USPS applied “ship damage tape” to one end. So I hope everything made here, what I found in the package was a leather bag. In the bag, I find an awesome looking knife with a deer antler handle in a sheath made of leather and rawhide. Also I found a nice piece of beeswax, the last thing I found (I think ) a bunch fire starter blocks made from dryer lint and beeswax. Thank You! Mr. Woolery.
Thanks again. Ed Brooks

I’ll be finishing my gift up this weekend and mailing it Monday.
-
Ed, I was given Trapper Rob's name and address to send to. I know I shipped to him, so the box you got was from someone else.
I suspect there may have been a list update, so you got a gift from someone else here.

Mr. Woolery I found out I got the package from EdwardS.
Thank You again EdwardS. Ed

Ed the list that was posted was who all wanted in.

Due to travel by some family members, we are doing presents early this year. Which means I got to open a box from Pat B!
How cool is this?
I’m thrilled!
Patrick

And lift the flap to find a cute little antler handle file knife!
I absolutely love owning knives made by other people.
I’m super-pleased.

Mine will be going out tomorrow. It's all one would need to build a sinew backed yew takedown. some leather, beeswax and pine resin blocks and some raw card scraper material. they make great card scrapers.
-
A lot of nice stuff going out
-
Patrick, Glad you like the bag. Dylan Holderman forged the file knife and I hafted the antler handle on it. The button on the front is a slab of South Georgia fat lighter, from the remains of a long dead Southern Long Leaf Yellow Pine. If you hold it up to the light you can see through it and if you ever need a fire starter small pieces of it will do it.
I hope the bag serves you well. :OK
-
Pat, I believe that bag will certainly serve me well. I'd have to really need that fire in order to use the button. That's some pretty looking wood, there. But it is great to know that I could use it if needed. Very practical idea, actually.
-Patrick
-
The file blade should throw a good spark with the right flint so you should be ready just in case. :OK
Enjoy!

After the long, agonizing wait I opened my Christmas Trade box this morning and found these cool items; a nice tom tom with 2 sticks and a very nice little knife with a stabilized walnut(looks like) burl handle. This little knife is very sharp! I'll add a sheath to my side stalker quiver and have the knife with me when I go shooting. Thanks Aaron(Mesophilic) for these great, hand made gifts.
Aaron, what is the wood the tom tom is made from? lodgepole pine?

Glad you like them.
The drum body is made from a hollowed out log of Russian olive. The sticks are Apache plume with apple wood tips.
Remember that Oxo knife repair thread you started about a year ago? Well I dug up that thread in my search and decided you need a suitable replacement. The knife is either AEB-L or Nitro V steel, can't remember exactly, but the latter steel is just the former with a little added nitrogen, both are stainless razor blade steels that take a fine sharp edge. I think the handle scales are stabilized mango, but I'm just guessing. The blade is 60-61 HRC so probably won't want to pry an arrow out of a tree or you might break the tip.
-
Thanks for the info, Aaron. BTW, I used JB Weld on the Oxo blade to reattach the handle and so far so good. It's funny, Oxo sent me a replacement knife but it is a cheezie little paring knife, nowhere near what the broken knife is.
I've never seen Russian Olive that big around. Most is only 2" at the most.
Thanks again for the great gifts. :OK
