I generally don't get to worked up about a bow failure. This one....well this one got to me a bit. This is a piece of yew that I harvested with the help and guidance of Bryce and Dan Kirkpatrick about 6 yrs ago. It was 69" long with whitetail brow tine tips. It had 2" of natural reflex and pulling 55#@26". This thing was really getting it done! My son and I were messing around flinging arrows and he snapped a pic just as the bottom 4" of the lower limb just folded over and snapped off. Turns out the grain took a 45 degree twist around a knot there and I didn't notice. I'm going to try and save it, but I was nonplussed to say the least.

I can see the problem from here, trucker. You're shooting it backerds. You're supposed to hold the bow with your left hand :)

You noticed! I've always been left eye dominant, which was a major part of my notorious inaccuracy with a bow. My uncle's taught me to shoot right handed as a boy and that was just what felt natural. However as the yrs have piled up on me and the accompanied damage to my person(horse wrecks, motorcycle crashes, etc.) My right shoulder is getting weaker and weaker. Also, I had a mishap that tore my right cornea and left a blurry spot in that eye. I really had little choice but to go left-handed. My accuracy is improving drastically and I can pull much heavier bows again. Thank the Lord that I didn't cut shelves into many of my personal bows!

That sucks, Josh. I'm sure you'll be able to make it into another bow. :OK
-
Aw, bummer. Hope you can fix it.

Cut that 4" off and re-tiller. Easy peasy for an old hat like you.
-
That's the plan fellas. I've already cut it off and luckily it was the lower limb that got shortened so the arrow strike plate that I inletted will be under the handle wrap.

Sorry to hear of your Heart Break, but I followed enough to know you will salvage it if anyone can.
-
Hope it didn't snap into your leg! The picture seems to be a bit squashed down though (lol)! Good luck with the rebuild! Btw, your form looks ok to me but I hold the bow in my right hand, too!

I'm certainly going to give it a shot. Yew is rather hard to come by in my area. 3 of my 4 kids are lefties. They are all delighted that I had to switch to my left. My son is already calling dibs on some of my bows.
