Title: trade bow with laminated handle and inlays
Post by: jeffp51 on October 17, 2019, 08:56:11 pm
Here is my trade offering for 2019.  It's Osage with a built-up laminated grip of hickory, tigerwood, and walnut.   the tips are laminated purple heart and deer antler.  It has 2 inches of reflex, and is 67" nock-to-nock.  It is finished with 8 coats of tung oil, which has been buffed with pumice stone to give it a satin finish.  It had two knot holes that did not quite go all the way through, so I filled them with blue stone chips mixed with epoxy.  I think the results were pretty nice.  I did leave the big knot just a little stiff for safety's sake

I went back and forth on how to finish the grip.  the grain in the handle turned out better than I expected, and considered shipping it bare.  But personally I prefer shooting with a leather grip, and a leather strike plate quiets the shot quite a bit too.  So I compromised.  the shelf and strike plate are attached with rubber cement and are easily removable, if the recipient so wishes.

The bow is 55# @28" but it will draw to 29" if it has too.

Jeff,
You put heart and soul into that one man...Really nice offering...That's one of those bows you love and hate to let go, but that's what it's all about...

Glad you wrapped that handle, Jeff. As sexy as they are, they get slippery with a bit of moisture. For me its function over eye appeal.

Thank you all, I really appreciate the kind words.  I did enjoy making this one.  Don,  I try to put a little heart into each bow, and I certainly tried my best here, but for some reason it wasn't hard to give this one up, even though I like how it turned out.  It's going to a good home, and I hope it will be well used.  Tracking says it has been delivered, so I hope we hear from the new owner soon.

I am the lucky owner of this new bow!  Thanks so much Jeff.  She's a beauty and a beast!
It was raining all day yesterday but I should be able to get some arrows through it and pictures up soon...Thanks again

By gum, Mr Packer, I am forced to admit I am beginning to be a fan of your work. Your tillering is getting to be pretty nigh on to perfect and you sure know how to get'em dressed up for the fancy dancin'!

JW, that is about as nice a compliment as I have ever had.  I'd sure hate to force you into liking my work, but if gentle persuasion will work, then I am all for it.  I have to admit I'm not much good at dancing.

Badger and B2W thanks also for your kind words.
