Title: Removing a sight from used bow
Post by: ResslerKeen on October 20, 2019, 01:13:34 am
I am considering purchasing a used bow from a local  vidmate (https://vidmate.onl/) mobdro (https://mobdro.onl/) word counter (https://wordcounter.onl/) bow shop. A Bear Kodiak Magnum. The previous owner installed a very old sort of pin sight by drilling into the front of the riser. One screw is in the middle of the riser slightly above the sight window the second screw is further up the riser, not into the bow limb, in the riser taper area. I have zero desire to shoot this bow with this sight, will removing it and filing the screw holes with fiberglass resin or something compromise the integrity of the bow?

I'm afraid you said the F-word (spits on the floor as required )  I'm afraid this is the wrong place for your question. But welcome. We hope you are ready to build a wooden bow.

As Jeff says no fiberglass on here but to give you an answer - no it won't make any difference removing them. Drilling the holes in the first place was the problem!

Like bownarra said, just fill the holes in with epoxy.

I have filled sight holes in bows by using a match stick and epoxy. I try and stain the end of the match stick as close as I can with the wood that it is going in to.

I've done the same, almost, Jon. I packed sawdust in the hole with epoxy and then tried to match the gelcoat color with paint.

All the above!  That should be a hard shooting bow, but hopefully, you also have a selfie bow to cleanse your being from f.g. (lol)!  Not to fear, I have one of those, also, but to make up for it and my original "Ol' Glassy One", I have 2 self bows and some staves to purify my self! >:D (lol)

You can talk fibreglass on around the campfire, always have been able to. Can't on the bows page
