Title: Hollowed limb Osage finished.
Post by: Parnell on November 09, 2019, 02:51:34 pm
Calling this done.  The stave had just a little twist and kick out around the handle which you can see.  I was fussing at the end with the tiller because the top limb looked flat.  It’s not my favorite tiller but it does shoot great.  66” tip to tip, 5” handle with 2” fades.  Just wanted to see if I liked that, but for me, the extra inch is unnecessary really.  60# at 27”.  It’s feeling great with a 7.5” brace height.
Also, it holds an inch of reflex when unstrung.

Nice looking bow. I'm curious what prompted the hollow limb with that particular stave. From what I can see the back looks pretty flat. I'm only asking because every hld bow I've seen has the belly contour matching the crown of the back.  :)

Honestly Weylin, just for fun and try something different.  I tillered the bow by trapping the back.  After having done this I do feel that this design is for what you are describing and I doubt I’ll look to pursue this again for flat backed staves.  But, it’s a quick bow and I’m pleased...can’t measure the precise speed, maybe at Eddie’s next time I go up there.

Thanks Del!

Nice bow bet it's fast, could you crono it?
as Weylin mentioned: is the hld going along with the crown, or are the edges already thicker than the middle? IMO hld already helps on slightly crowned backs - throughout the more even thickness it helps to spread the forces over the whole width.

B2W- no it was a regular flat backed stave that I tillered by trapping.  I don’t have a chrono, myself.  Maybe Santa Claus can get that on his list as I’ve been a fairly good boy this year.  I won’t estimate, but I don’t notice much speed difference compared to the same arrow shot with my 50# glass bow.  But that’s neither here nor there.

Pat, Will, WB, thanks guys.

That's one of the better Hollowed limb bows I have seen.  Excellent bend and finish.

Gotcha. It's always worth playing around with ideas. Looks like you got a nice bow out of it.

Trapezoidal cross-section...in this case I'm meaning that I've reduced the sides of the back of the bow leaving it wider at the belly.

Thanks guys.
