Title: Old Knives Reborn
Post by: mullet on December 21, 2019, 02:22:05 pm
I like buying old Carbon Butcher knives when I see them cheap. I usually take the handles off and put a pretty piece of wood on. The big old Butcher with the Figured Maple might end up in a sheath instead of the knife drawer.

Certainly gave that old knife a breath of new life Eddie.

Thanks, I like dressing them up. The old Hickory is going to get another good wet sanding and coat of lacquer when all of the rain clears out. The weatherman says we have a possible 5.5" coming tonight and through Monday.

Looks good Eddie.

I find a hand full of those old carbons knives while yard sailing thru the summer months and take them to the Flint Ridge knapin and sell them for $5.00 each. I never pay more than a dollar for them and only buy the carbon knives.  Guess I will have to take one and try doing what you do and re-finish one.

I do the same thing. I've been saving them up to sell at the Rendezvous coming up in January.

There is so much beauty in the old blades. Every bit of the wear and patina tells a story. I love knowing that there are folks like you who see it and make handles to really bring out the stories in the blades.

Thanks for sharing!

Where do you guys find them so cheap?  People are wanting $10-15 a knife for them here, and that's fully dulled and rusty.  I've been looking for one of those knives for my regalia and I don't want to pay the $30+ for the blade kit then patinate it.

If anyone knows where I can find them for the prices you guys are getting them let me now.

That is absolutely beautiful work, though.  Those knives are works of art.

Yard sales. Never pay more than a buck each for them. I am not sure how many I have at home right now.

Nice Eddie, good looking knifes. Can't find them for a buck here.
