I had plans for this bow to be placed in the pot for the pa bow trade. I am sorry to say that I could not wait as a child cannot wait for Christmas morning. It just laid there in my hand for days and suddenly I was holding a bow. Its 45 lbs at 28 inches. I love it.

Classic bow, with some nice character. Well done.
-
Thank you sir! It chucks my 500 grain arrows with authority. Right where I'm looking at 20 yards. A little shockey but I'm working on that.
-
I thought this would be a twist on an arrow pass. I made the hole just a smidgeon too big. I have plenty more wood for bows. This one is special right now lol
-
Nicely done !!
-
Very nice bow!
-
I agree, very nice bow. You could bring the bend back towards the handle, top and bottom but other than that...very nice bow. :OK
I like the medallion too!
-
"No Cash Value" sounds like a great name for a bow.
-
Nice! The saga continues!

Thanks guys! I thought the token would be a nice touch. I was leaning towards "a token of friendship" but now I really want to build another for the trade lol

Beautiful bow, nice work. :)

It is beautiful. Nicely done. Jawge

The handshock is because the lower limb is weak.
-
Is the lower limb looking like its bending too much? Its 1.5 inches shorter than the top. Its definitely slightly stiffer as I have about 1/8th inch positive tiller. It way over powered the top limb on the initial long string tillering.
-
It does look like bottom limb may be a bit weak,,hard for me to see in full draw,,,u might look at that a bit,,.Osage can get a bit shocky if it has too much mass weight for the draw weight,,,easy to do cause it does not take much Osage to make a bow,,.,u might consider weighing the bow...it looks great,, sure it will tune up nicely
-
I weighed the bow. It is 595.8 grams. I don't know if that's too heavy but it shoots plenty hard. I did some more sanding but it's too dark now for pics. Overall I'd have to say that the bow is pretty decent considering that it has never touched a tillering tree and only used the gizmo once to check my work. Snakey bows seem to flow on a different line and the gizmo is still awkward to me. Thanks for the criticism that's what drives me to better myself. I will get into the modernization of the bow building world one day but, for now, I still love "feeling" the bow stop coming around and let off there before it takes set.

How much should a 63 3/4 inch stiff handled osage selfbow drawing 45 lbs at 28 inches weigh? Roundabout?
-
You can message badger,.,I have the chart at work
-
ok I read the chart to indicate about 18 oz
i converted your grams to 21 oz,,
so I dont know if that much difference would cause hand shock but the bow might be just a bit heavy,, hoping some others will chime in,,or that might be close enough to really be in the ball park,,
in my experience reducing tip weight helps,,
also make the bow a bit shorter and side tiller back to weight would help,, there is a trade off with set or string angle,,
I am guessing if you narrow tips as much as you can,, you will be happy
3 0z is 1300 grains,, so that might make a difference,,,like I said I am not a math guy,, but if I have a bow that is shocky that is one of the first things I look at,, I dont weigh the bow,, I can usually tell from the shock and speed through the chrono,, if its slow and holding a nice profile,, I know I probably over built the design,, and make adjustments until I a happy with the way it shoots,,
-
I've reduced the tips. Retillered back into the handle more and tried to match the top limb. Hope I got it closer and not the other way!
-
well how does it feel.. hows does it shoot for you,, the looks are secondary at this point,, :)
-
The shock is all but gone. It hits right where I'm looking at 20 yards and I think I gained weight. I just cut this tree 3 weeks ago. It was standing dead with the bark still on. Overall i really like it. Don't know any chrony numbers yet but its definitely snappy.
-
sounds like your good,, congrats,, :)

Thanks!
