Title: "Lynx" Osage Orange character pyramid bow
Post by: dreamcraft_archery on March 20, 2020, 02:38:01 am
My newest creation. Osage Orange character pyramid bow. This one was made from the same stave as my latest Osage wonky recurve so both have similar snaky lines. Drawing around 35lbs at 28 inches. Stave had some initial set on both limbs. Took less than an inch of set. Purple heart arrow pass plate and some leather on handle. It's lightweight predator so I named it Lynx. Limbs are 3" wide in the widest. I know it's not recommended for Osage having such wide limbs but I couldn't help myself. Really great shooter!

Very nice looking bow.  I have to tell you though your fades look susceptible to failure

Cool bow, it is ok to go against some rules like using a given width for such and such a wood but as Marc says yours fades are not right. As this is the most strained section of a bow they must be done correctly.
As your bow isn't high in draw weight and is under strained it might be ok.
As the width narrows from the widest part of the limb, through the fade, into the handles width the bow should correspondingly thicken. So as soon as it narrows it should thicken. Your bow appears to narrow but not get thicker as early as it should.
Hope this makes sense. :)
I'm sure somebody will have a picture which demonstrates this.

Thank you for your kind words guys. I really appreciate any comment especially advices.

Yeah I know those fades aren't right but I realized when it was too late. Still learning so definetely I will remember this lesson well. Bow is low drawweight so I think it will face succesfully this problem.

Thanks again.
