With all the cancelled events not happening, im finding myself with more shop time amd no one to share it with. When our small groups event got cancelled I half mentioned that we can just do a big group text to share what we do in our own shops. I know there are a few others here that probably feel the same way so I thought why not invite everyone? Brob and bring your own food but this weekend, make some shop time, take pictures, make some comments and get some stuff done. I know posting pics is tuff for me and probably some others but I think it would be a cool way for this online community to come together and build bows together.

It sounds like fun Dave... and there's always something to work on. Like you, it's a pain for me to post pictures, but it can be done. BYOB... :) :OK
-
I’m in! I had already taken the time off so I’m gonna go ahead and use it to get out in the ‘shop’ and get something done for a very welcome change.

I’m in . I’m having trouble posting pictures to. Even texting them right now. I’m really missing the getting together. Hope this gets over soon. I don’t get out much and really look forward to seeing my people again. Seeing the latest PA magazine and looking at the pictures from Marshall is great, but it’s making me miss it all the more

I'm in Dave join me in that text. Friday and Saturday night I'm almost always out my shop
-
Yep, I'm in the shop working most every day. Forge work or bow work most all of the time.
-
Thats great guys!
I wasnt going to do a text Paul, rather everyone posting one thread this weekend and stay active in it to involve a larger group. Make some new friends maybe in times of lockdown. Lol
I'll definitely include you in our group text if you want Patrick and mike texting all the time even at like 3am. Lol
-
I'm already part of the Michigan/ Indiana /Kentucky group text. I think Missouri boys are funnier though. count me in.
"I dun had a good time!"
-
I'm not in that one paul! Us missouri boys do have some laughs we let some Arkansas fellas in to.
-
I'll group you in. sometimes its annoying but i still love it
-
I know just what you mean Paul, but even when its 1130 pm amd someone chimes in with ,"ok" or ,"nice," it's still makes you smile.
-

Well I hope to see you here with pics this weekend.
-
We have been busy here in California and I hope you let me join you.
-
I'm in. Got a few projects in the works.
-
You Yanks will never let me live that down!
I'm in, I could use the shop time a lot. I had a few years there where I made it to most of the events. Then life changed and now I look forward to our small get-togethers more and more. Sure we will miss this weekend... But I'm planning on doing some bow work so I'll try to get some pictures posted.

I have a soft spot for strawberry blondes with sexy beards, count me in. I think we all could use it and especially the PA site could use some heavy traffic.

Especially when they are accessorized with a pencil and wearing tie die.

PS I’d love to see a traffic jam on PA

I found the easiest way for me to post pics is to take them with my phone, send them to my email, save them on my PC and resize them with Microsoft Paint. Its also the reason all my old pics are still on here. I never used a hosting site.
-
That is a PITA BJ. I just use an old camera to Card. I can take some I just usually dont have the little camera with me. Prolly be in woods this weekend for Turkey birds.

That's how I have done it for the past few years, but my old phone is mad at my old computer and it won't talk to it any more... :( I have to plug the phone into the computer and transfer the pictures manually...
once a caveman always a caveman... )P( We have 3" of rain here right now and it's still coming down... I may have to build a boat first... (R

My weekends are wednesday and thursday but i still fart around in the shop, so count me in for this weekend.
-
Sounds like a plan to me.
Several current projects - hope to bring one or more to fruition by MoJAM.
I got a nice ax head, making a handle for it. For the life of me, I don't recall where I picked it up. But it's a cool one for sure.

I'm trying to work the pictures to make it worth your while. Hahaha

I spent a little time this evening cleaning the shop and stocking it with fire wood. I am ready for Friday.
-
I have my first three day weekend in months this weekend! I am kinda thinking of brewing beer and doing some shop time. Weather is supposed to go in the crapper, so the shop seems like the place to be.
May I join in. please?
-
I can post pictures of trying sort through 22 years of accumulated stuff trying to figure out what to keep, steel, or scrap! As well as trying to pretty up the deck! The spot I cleared in the garage is filling up with boxes of stuff! I did get a bit of time to shoot a few arrows this afternoon! Hit the target every time! Need more exercise, and conditioning!

-
Heck why not. I haven’t got my new shop set into place yet so I’ve been building bows on the porch 😂 I can snap a few pics of what I’ve been up to. Looking forward to seeing others projects as well.
-
we should do a target contest. a piece of paper with a 1" dot in the middle. shoot 3 arrows and send a pic with the arrows in the target. we eliminate half at a time moving back 5 yards every time. that might be fun!
-
Russell, that's a good idea to. We have all weekend!
Sounds like we are going to have a good turn out. It's no classic, but there will be a lot of us there!
-
I think I can post one I took tonight. Might as well be one of those guys that starts the weekend early.
Bjrogg
PS just a little stiff right mid to outer I think but pretty close.
-
Looks pretty good so far BJ. Odd to see one of your bows without those signature hooks on the ends.
-
I'll be prepping a few osage billets and building some new arrows for my new bow this weekend. It should be fun seeing dozens and dozens of action pics getting posted all weekend. Big Dave you should start a new thread for this Friday night.
-

lol. Kyle it feels weird making one to. I keep wanting to flip the tips. The fella I’m making this one for just wanted straight tips with stiff handle and a shelf. Haven’t done many of those in the past few years.
Bjrogg
PS might need to open the gate before Friday for those early arrivals Dave.

Guess I will bring camera to farm in morning?

Been real sick the past few days, if I'm back on my feet I'll drop in. Been getting the itch to put knife to wood.
Not sure I'll do any shooting, I don't have an eye patch right now (and after my last stroke I'm partially blind, so it helps.) Depends on how I feel.
But it would be nice to talk to everyone.
-
Be glad to have you Ed!
So I figured out how to post pics, I just have to donit the old fashioned desktop way. Luckily I bought one for my kids and I can stumble through it! I'll post my updates a few times a day. I have a few projects to work on.
Ill start a thread on friday morning I guess even though bj already started!. It would be nice to put faces to names so if you can, maybe a picture of yourself if you can. Except for jw...no one wants to see that. Lol ;D
-
If all goes well, I will have a new shop under contract by Sunday! Sort of not staying at home, but business is business, and it is a prime property!
Hawkdancer
-
JW,
Only if you post your beer recipe! >:D (lol). I'm not sure my supply shop is open! May not be an essential business!

Everyday is Sat.
Just some work from yesterday. Had a few guys working on bows yesterday. Yella wood was flying.
HH~

That’s what my retired buddies always tell me Shawn. Except for Sunday.
Nice stave Pappy is working on there. When you measure that one do you follow the curves, or as the crow flies.lol

The one with the pencil in the canyon? Was purty straight wood cept in rolled inverted at one tip. It was out last 6" by 35 degrees. Actually it was a trench at one end and had to move centerline to side of that gulch which twisted tip grain on 35 degree angle.
Think that thing 4-5 five days to scrape to a ring. Entire back with a S curve scraper and sharp palm chisel at one point.
Yeah, we worked on 3-4 bows yesterday all day. Took a break for late lunch and went back at it. Turkey opener Sat so, no bow work in morning for sure.
HH~

Unfortunately I have never met Pappy, so I could be wrong, but I think that is really Zeus with his lightning bolt.
-
well this weekend started out pretty good the girls woke me up and wanted to work on their bows so after i had woken up an bit more we went outside on the porch (my current workshop area since my shop still isnt in place bc of all the rain, then i still have to hook up electrical and blah blah blah) to work on some wood.
while they scraped on some apple i finished up tillering on a short stick of European Buckthorn i had laying around. its an inch at the handle and like and 1 1/8" at the widest. such tough elastic wood! came in at #72@27" and is 55"NTN
snuck down into random utility room in our basement where humidity is low to glue up another Ottoman bow i started as another "quarantine" project.
slapped some more finish on a lemonwood longbow before i left so it could dry while i was gone for the day.
After that i made a quick trip to a little shin-dig at Carson place, also brought him some 500 fir shafts that had been sorted and matched. kind of like a delivery dude haha
We shot a bit, had a few brews, big ole fire, and swapping hunting stories and stupid sh&# we've done over the years. You know the way a Bowyers get together goes. all and all a good time.
anyways heres a couple pics

I'm glad to see guys got some shop time in! WE HAVE ALL BEEN WORKING ON PROJECTS THIS WEEKEND. I'm typing on my computer so we are learning toadapt.

Hedge was in the blind with selfbow this morning.

I'm guessing that's a decoy out there. If it was a real live turkey your knee would have been blurry ;D ;D ;D

Worked garden today. Put my cabbage seedlings in and start my six varieties of Heirloom tomatoes. One of my varieties I call JCM's are ones my father got off one branch of a tomato that had a color phase anomaly. Been in my family for 40yrs. The Baggets of Tennesse have them now in their 3rd or fouth generation as well.
I had some really nice root end billets I decided to split and match up. Really very nice wood for Tennessee Hedge. Should make fine pyramid bows.
HH~

More Wuhan Days project weekend.
HH~
-
That’s a nice set of billets my dude! Is that an Osage axe handle?
I noticed a lot of bowyers, including myself have Osage for axe handles lol
-
Makes a purty handle but will not take the punishment a good hickory handle will.
Did a belly split off a belly split for a nice set of billets after turkey hunting this morning.
