Title: small belt knife
Post by: Handforged on April 21, 2020, 08:53:21 pm
I made a couple of these the other day. Finished a one of them this evening and thought you folks might like a picture!
Forged these from 52100 round stock.  Snake filed spine with jimping on the spine forward of the scales. Drop point with a small amount of recurve to the blade for more traction cutting strings and rope. These blades are small, only about 8" overall with a 3.5" blade. These are going to a couple of working cowboys. Blade is acid etched for a darker color with a burl/flame maple/copper epoxy resin scales. Nickel silver pins and a drop tail with a lanyard hole. I'll make a smaller crossdraw sheath for these that will be comfortable when in the saddle.

That's a pretty one. How about a better picture of the scales? They look really interesting.

Taking some better pictures now. As soon as the wife processes them.  The scales are made by bonding various types of burl wood chunks in an epoxy resin that has been treated with a color additive. Pretty neat stuff.

Very nice!  I like the scales, neat way to use small pieces of left over wood!

thanks guys. On the small knives it's the details that make them. I try to put a lot of little features in every knife but the smaller knives are where it really shows to me.  It just takes good pictures to illustrate.

waiting on some beaver tail to come in before I can start on it. I liked this one so much I made one for myself! I only had a few pieces of this scale material. Might have enough to do one or two more knives with it.

Thanks Will!  I have a few of these going out. For some reason this particular knife sparked a LOT of interest.
