Been going out over the last week or so to see what was hinging around on the Beaver ponds behind my house. I was able to get a few Ducks, mostly Wood Ducks, but was also able to get this one here. Don't see Blue Wing Teal very often around here so it was really nice to see this one on one of the ponds

I went out again yesterday and came across these growing out of a couple dead Birch trees. I didn't have anything to put them in so I went back today and picked most of them, also got another couple Wood Ducks :-M

Duck and mushrooms. Sounds like a good lunch to me.
Thanks Leroy

You use a shotgun for ducks, I take it? What kind of mushroom is that?
-
Marc,
Nice shooting on the ducks. I have hunted all sorts of game but I never had a place to hunt ducks. Always looked like it would be fun.
Take care,
brian

nice fall harvest, and pretty pics, has the moose been back?
-
Yes a shotgun. The teal was close enough for a bow but everything else was about 40 yrds away. The mushroom is a Pholiota
I see his tracks and scrapes but I'm getting through the water and muck the beavers have created to the high ground on the other side on my 4wheeler so I'm making too much noise for him to stick around

I lived in Stevenson Al for a number of years, the state had dewatering areas that they planted in grain and flooded, it was like being in Arkansas, tons of ducks. I was once a serious duck hunter, I hunted by myself and trained my own lab, it was a good time.
I started carving decoys when I was a duck hunter, when I found out I was crafty this led me to making bows and later flintlock rifles.
I made lot of decoys, very detailed ones but sold them all thinking I would make ducks forever. One day I burned out and never made another one, all I have left are a few so so ones.

I used to be an intense duck hunter as well and would hunt them right up until all the lakes were frozen solid
Nice decoys. At one time Wood Ducks were a restricted species for hunting and severely limited on how many you could shoot. Now they are everywhere. Good thing they are good to eat. I took a male the other day, he was quite fat and should be good eating.

Nice work on the decoys
-
Is there a season on moose where you are?
-
There is but I generally don't hunt them, way too much meat for 2 people
-
Eric - nice looking decoys, excellent work. Well done.
I used to be a dedicated duck and goose hunter, my lab Gifford and I were quite a pair, good memories. When he got old and stiff, I had to quit hunting with him so I sold my decoys and quit the game. He was great dog and a fine companion.
