Title: HedgeHunter 67" Hunt Rig "Hind Tit"
Post by: HH~ on October 31, 2020, 08:36:04 am
Here's is a 2020 hunt bow which slowly got finished up. This particular stave was cut in Todd County KY and came off a large farm that has the Trail of Tears running thru its east west section. The tree the stave came out of was right off the ToT. The forest had gobbled it up and it was sitting there keep guard on the ToT for an unknown number of years. Anywho's, we cut it 2016 and it went in several different tobacco barns and some went to Gil Mag's garage. He called me this summer and said "hey Shawn, you want this dry Hedge in my garage"? told him I would come get it out as it was last of this tree.

The dense piece of wood yielded a 67" 45@28" hunt bow. Which is purdy snappy and does what it was designed to do.
Enjoy

Nice work and a good shot, Shawn.

What river is that? Since I live in the land of muddy waters, I always appreciate a clear stream.

Thats the mighty Red that drains from Central south KY to the Cumberland River. You know the one Grants blue bellies came floating down in the 1860’s.

Not sure why but i counted coup on a bunch of whitetails with Hind Tit and a tight string already Jim. Guess i was saving room for elk chops?

Thought i was gonna take a big Tom bobcat tonite with Tit Arvin.
He never gave a good unobstructed shot.

Snaps a 590grn arrow quite well.

The Hid Tit has worked out very well in the 2020. Still holds about 2.5"-3" of reflex. Shot a few new shafts with broadheads last evening. Broke all my hunting shafts. My friend traded me some more shafts for a pound of Vita Vuori N550 powder. Now the Tit has bullets for the quiver.

The HT is heading out for last few days of the Tenn season. Been looking at it hangin off my elk rack. Think it wants one more good broadhead off it. Hmmn, looking at it now i see bloody finger prints from that last whitetail buck on it. Yes, it needs a last run up my lowering line to hang above me and my climber in search of a fat whitetail.

Yeah, this bow tillered itself really. It did have a big wave in the grain in lower limb which really help keep that limb a little stiff which I like. This bow quickly became like my M4 Carbine (warm friendly and familiar). When I grab it off the bow hanger she wants to send an arrow into the vitals.

Thanks

The woods is looking purty thin now. Saw deer going in and heard 2 or 3 coming out last evening. No deer came by during Majik hour however. Whinding down very quickly here. Almost time for hog hunting or some south Texas non native species hunting.

Hot liver is good for the Pup and great with bacon and eggs in the skillet. I don't eat as much as I did when I was younger but I sure do like it.

Hey here's the Tit's early beginnings! Cant understand where we are at without knowing where we came from.

Beautiful bow, excellent post. And it appears to be a sweet shooter too! the Osage wood is just such a beautiful wood in itself and when made into such a fine weapon as that, a very productive one as we see. The problem is that I have a stave ready to be floor tillered but I can't work on it yet for a while. I mean to take my sweet time to do it as right as possible to end up as much like yours as possible and about the same weight. But after seeing your pics, it's gonna be hard to take my time LOL. congrats on such a fine weapon, that has to be a confidence weapon. Jerry

Its a good bow very easy on the fingers and casts a 600 grain arrow well out to 30yds.

On the handle when I look at it I forgot to mention. When cutting out the riser from the stave that original cut is still in the handle. That original bandsaw cut is what you see where your palm sits. It was rough and i liked the feel. So, i just left it and rubbed some oil and beeswax into it. Now that its aged some i really like the way it looks and feels.

Here's the pile of sapwood and and bark from a days peelings. Hind Tit came out of this pile. Most don't show the evolution of the very bow you see hanging form the tree stand. I happened to be lucky enough to find the pictures of this proven meat harvesting tool of the Bow Hunter. From tree to bow, wood to a tool. Enjoy

I was kind of wondering about that surface was on the handle.  That is a seriously wavy log behind the vise in the last photo.

Snakey Osage

I have been told the evolution of the selfbow builder by the guys who have several thousand builds between them.

Goes somethin like this....

First a guy cant find wood straight and clean enough. Builds a few bows then, cant find wood knotty enough. Builds a few more and cant find wood snaky enough. Then, he comes to figgerin straight clean wood builds really good Shootin bows.

That about right Arvin?

Here's the HT getting profiled.

Prolly one of the smoothest and most accurate hunt bow shooters I have. May have past up my 44lb big hook static as well. Ain't got any quit in her. Like a 50-52lb spined arrow about 30" long with 190-200grn broad head up front. Wood cut in KY, profiled and tiller in Tennessee.

Yes Dont think there has ever been a PA bow of the year that arrow 5 whitetails in the months it won BOM.

Just finished the Tit's bows twin. Same wood. shoots same arrows, same weight, same BH's. One inch shorter bow. Same riser config except its a billet bow. Shoots same same. Great hunting rig as well.

Yep
I made a sister to this bow for a good hunting friend of mine in KY. Came from same tree 50@28". The tree was right on the stream crossing where the Trail of Tears crossed in Todd County, KY. Was on a good friends 4000 acre farm. There is a huge sink hole depression where underground river and blue hole is exposed of to surface. Lots of chert and arrowheads where the natives of this area knapped lots and lots of stone. Special spot to be sure. Has lime stone ledges where they sat by blue hole and knapped. Its a big area cover by big Oaks, Hackberry and Elms.

This is the Sister to Hind Tit the Working Hunters Bow.

I'm thinking the owner never hunted it much. Dont think he ever killed out with it? Maybe a turkey I think from a blind?
