Title: Rawhide-Backed Osage Takedown
Post by: Will B on February 24, 2021, 08:00:54 pm
I had a couple nice seasoned osage billets and decided to make a takedown bow. This is the second takedown I’ve done.  The bow is 67” nock to nock and 55# @ 28”. I used Smooth-On MT-13 to mount the brass sleeves. I backed the thin-ringed Osage with rawhide using TB III and western diamondback snakeskins. The metal sleeve is covered with leather from an Amish saddle shop.

Bow is really dead in the hand with no hand shock and it hits where I’m aiming. This bow will probably be my new hunting bow. Thanks for looking.

Well, that ought to make some meat for ya.  :-D Nice looking bow all around! Those skins have some real good color. Well done!

Pounding them out this winter eh Bill. Nice all around work on that bow. Handy for transport, and shorter than normal. Keep up the good work.

Great bow, Bill.  I’m planning to make a similar bow soon.  Great for traveling!  I have a theory that the additional mass of the sleeve helps stabilize the bow and reduce hand shock.

I really like the extra mass in the handle. Definitely helps stabilize the bow. Thanks for all the nice comments fellas.

Very nice Will. You did an excellent job. Good luck hunting with it. Maybe you should try it out on some gobblers in a few months.

If that isn't good enough, I don't know what is!
