Don has deligated the the responsibility for the PITH to me this time around. He is overwhelmed at work. Looks like things are getting busy again...

So, whoever want to jump in, please do so now. I think I'm going to draw the names on the 15th of June. If you are late by a few days and still want to join, I will find someone who will trade with you or I'll send you a point myself.

Let's make it a good one!  :KN )P( (=)

I'll be posting eye candy on this thread to keep it current.   ;D

If it's ok, I'm going to allow bone arrowheads or arrowheads made from ground slate and such.

Looking at last year's PITH, Don gave everyone one month to ship the points. So, you guys have from June 15th to July 15th to get your points in the mail.

Here are the rules:

Everyone ships to the person above them on the list.
The person on the top of the list ships to the last name on the list.
If you're in for 2, you ship to the two people above you on the list.
You have one month to ship your point from the date the list is posted.
Please let’s post a pic of the points we receive.
Please PM your recipient & for their ship to address.

I will also add the following:
There were quite a few people who did not post pics last year. If you cannot post pics for whatever reason, send me a picture to my email (jackcrafty2@gmail.com) and I will post the picture for you.

I'm absolutely no good with stone, but I have a grinding wheel and bone,  I just don't know what makes a really good bone point.

You definatly posted some fancy blades there!  I may give it a shot, it looks like one is more of a patience game than a skill game like stone.  I'm interested by the reference to mother of pearl, I know where to get abalone shell, I may give that a go.

I put in an additional rule for those who are "in for two". You can see the rule addition in red letters in the rule post above.

If you're in for three, same rule applies. You ship to the three people directly above you on the list, etc.

Final List:

JackCrafty
SSRhythm
GutPile
Yosemite Ben
BJRogg
PaulC
Parnell
Tower
BonePile
Trapper Rob

Looks like SSRhythm and PaulC are going to receive points from two people. Lucky.

I didn't look at last years' PITH to see if some people are exchanging points  to/from the same person as last year. This was luck of the dice. Luckily, there are 10 people and I just happen to have a 10-sided die from my D&D days. ;D

PM’d address to Paul and look forward to seeing what he sends me.

My cousin is going to be visiting for a couple weeks and we plan on making some flakes when he gets here. He said to be watching for a couple boxes of spalls he is sending in the mail.

I will try to get something for Ben then

Oooo-weee!  Dammit son!  I just got home from working in Ohio again, was on call the last two nights, and have not slept a wink since Wed. afternoon.  Now I’m too jazzed to go to sleep, dangit.  My new Kenetrex Mtn Guides were sitting in my garage along with a box from the Gutster!  Love it man!  Pretty flaking pattern that I did not do justice with photos, and you have to give details on how you did the nice hidden tang attachment.

Patrick, I was given a few boxes of some  killer-diller mixed stone from an absolute treasure of a new friend and incredible human being here in Wheatland.  I’m going to see if he minds if I tell his story on here…he may post on here or maybe he used to.  I’ve decided his story/stories need to get out there after drooling slack-jawed in his trophy room at the many, many impressive species he mounted himself…including the current Wyoming typical no 1 mulie, the world number 4 Dall at the time he killed it, a stud Billie, Moose, mtn lions, monster Elk etc…..all taken with trad and primitive gear!  Anyhoo…I digress.  He can no longer knapp due to physical issues, and he gave me all his rock.  I think some of it that I took some flakes from is Flint Ridge, as it is super pink with some blues…gorgeous stuff and holy Toledo does it flake like a dream.  I’m going to dive into trying to make something beautiful and sharp for you tomorrow.  Get me your full name and address here or via PM, and I’ll get something done and in the mail as soon as I can.

Here’s gut’s…I mean MY blade! Woot!

Eric im not a big fan of deer jaws but they do feel great in the hand . They really match up well with blade. I am relieved it made it , was kind of worried ... the beauty of the deer jaw is its not hard to drill out a hidden tang . I could of wrapped it for looks but i kind of liked it naked ... its sharp too . Should gut or skin many a deer before it might need a touch up . Thanks for the kind words .. enjoy brother
Title: Re: 2021 PITH
Post by: ssrhythm on July 03, 2021, 10:13:25 pm
I like it a lot.  I’ve wanted to use a jawbone for a handle, but I just haven’t had the right blade to mate with one.  I like the non-wrapped clean-ness if it.  Looks like it is from a 3.5-4.5 year old deer.  Only complaint…wish you had put your maker’s mark on it somewhere.  How am I supposed to profit off it when you get famous?! ;D

Nice knife gut.

Beautiful points Patrick.

I had a sweet one going last night. I had it almost done. Just a little indirect and pressure to finish it up. I guffed up and slipped first strike indirect. Tool slid up on point just as baton was making contact and I broke my point. Dang it was going to be a pretty one.

I’ll get back at it as soon as I can

Ok folks, it's time to see an uptick of "point porn."  My wife and kids have been visiting the inlaws in Alabama for two weeks and don't get back 'till Wednesday, my bow is in the wrapped and drying phase of the sinew job, there are only so many arrows (shoots) that you can straighten at one sitting before you go permanantly cross-eyed, and I've nearly got the house "spring-cleaning" clean.  I'm trying not to knapp anymore until after elk season, because I have a raging case of tendonitis/tennis elbow, and doing anything shocky like knapping will not allow it to heal...SO...I'm bored...SO...

Post some freaking pics already!

Just in case anyone is having trouble posting pictures:

I've found it much easier to post pics from my iphone than from my computer.  I have an iPhone 11, and my computer is a PC running Windows 10.

Use your smartphone to take your pics then sign on to PA.com then

1. hit "reply" to whatever thread you want to post a pic
2. add what you want to say like you'd reply to any thread on the forum
3. touch or click on "attachments and other options" bleow the text box you just typed your message in
4. Click or touch the "choose file" button under the bolded "Attach:" thingy that opened up when you did step 3.
5. A menu will pop up on your phone that says "Photo Library , Take photo or video,  and Browse"
6. Touch "Photo Library"
7. Find the picture you want to post and touch it,

HERE IS WHERE YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION and this is where most folks are likely having trouble.

The picture you chose will enlarge to fill the entire screen and across the bottom of the screen, you will see:

"Cancel"  "Actual Size (2.6MB)"  "Choose"

If you click choose, and believe me you will do that even when you are aware that you shouldn't, the picture chosen is way too large of a file, and it will never post.  So, you MUST...

7. Touch where it says "Actual Size (x.x MB)"

8. A menu will pop up showing the choices "Small (x.xKB)" "Medium (x.xKB) "Large (x.xKB) "Actual Size (x.xMB)

Choose the one that is as close to 250KB WITHOUT GOING OVER 250KB.
The file must be 250KB or smaller!

9. Once you touch the one you want that is less than 250KB, double check that is says the correct size at the
bottom of the pic and then touch "choose"

10.  You can repeat this process 3 times by now touching "(more attachments)" and repeating the process for a total of four attached photos per post.

If you screw up and hastily choose a pic without reducing it's size and hit "Post," it will not post and you're screwed.  I've found it easiest to completely leave PA.com website then come back, go to the thread I want to post pics on, hit reply, and start the process over.  You will not simply be able to hit the back button to change the pic size that screwed you up....at least I haven't figured out a way to do that yet.

If you choose pics under 250KB, there is never a problem with them posting quickly to the thread.

If you are trying to do this on a computer:  I have not found an easy way to post from my computer.  When you choose a picture on the computer, it does not give the option to choose a size that I have been able to figure out.  Therefore, it chooses the large pic file, and it will not post.  The only way I've been able to post pics from my computer is to go into where I have the photo stored, click on it to edit it, and screw with it until the file size is less than 250KB.  I don't like doing this, because it saves the pic as a smaller, less quality image on my computer at that point.

I have absolutely no clue what causes the pics to show up distorted and/or rotated, but it dosen't happen often enough for me to worry about figuring it out.

If anyone can enlighten us as to why pics post upside-down and distorted and tell us how to avoid it, please do so.

Hope this was helpful to someone...anyone.

I reveived two sweet pieces from Ben.  Unfortunately the tip was broken on the dacite point and some flakes had been chipped off the obsidian biface during the rough ride in the postal carriers' vehicles.  I was able to superglue the tip back on to the dacite point, and you can't tell it was ever broken.  The obsidian biface wasn't affected significantly at all.  I'll try to post pics tonight, but I'm currently up to my eyeballs in multiple projects pulling me in far too many directions.

Well I’m sure I could spend another couple hours on this one and make it nicer, worse or completely ruin it. Guess I don’t have the time to find out and it doesn’t look just to bad. I will try to get it sent out  early next week Ben.

PS any suggestions for what to sign black obsidian with.

BJ I have used a glass etcher or a diamond tip etcher.

I use GELLY ROLL pens to sign dark material. When it dries, I brush a layer of clear varnish (clear fingernail paint) over the signature because it will rub off easily.

Alright everyone, we originally had a month to mail our points, starting on June 15th. It's almost the end of July. If you haven't received a point yet, let me know. I'll send you one. Let's wrap this up. :D )P( (SH)
