Anybody interested in the arrow trade this year?
-
I'm in. :OK
-
Me, too :OK!
Hawkdancer
-
I haven’t been around for a while but I’ll jump in if you’ll have me.
-
You're more than welcome to join in
-
I'll get in on this
-
I’m in.
Bjrogg
-
We'll leave this go till the end of the month then I'll draw names the first of July
-
You'd think with 230 views we'd get more than just a handful of folks interested.
-
Yes, but the bow trade is enough for me, and I don't have much use for a single arrow.
-
Shoot, fetch, shoot, fetch, continue until tired? (lol). It only takes one arrow to make a kill (SH) :NN >:D! (lol) (lol) :fp
Hawkdancer
-
Most of the views are me, waffling back and forth, trying to muster the gumption to join. But I think I'll do it. Count me in.
-
Yes, but the bow trade is enough for me, and I don't have much use for a single arrow.
Gotta realize that one arrow is from another Primitive Archery member. I have several now. Most I don’t shoot I just collect.
Bjrogg
-
My arrow trade arrows always go in my arrow collection. I like collecting things made by others. :OK
-
Same... i just like collecting other peoples work, i dont shoot any of my trade arrows
-
I'm the same way I need to make a display rack for them.
-
Trapper,
+1!
Hawkdancer
-
In my opinion, anyone is welcome to join our bow trades and our arrow trades. I think it helps build confidence for the new guys by making the best they can for their recipient. And even though I don't shoot the arrows I've received from others I do make sure the ones I send out shoot well, at least for me.
We are all in this to learn and what better way to learn than to know what I've made is going to someone else. :OK
This is one of my arrow displays hanging over the side door or our house. I look at it from my chair every day.(https://i.imgur.com/yDwdbB1.jpg?1)
-
Don't slam that door too hard, you might end up with someone else's arrow sticking out the top of your head! :NN
-
I'm in for 1. ;D (SH)
-
People like me want to do it but aren't ready yet
-
Abosolutely count me in rob!
-
Allyn,
Jump in, you got to start somewhere, sometime! See you at MoJam!
Hawkdancer
-
+1 what Hawkdancer said, Allyn. :OK
-
On the note of collecting (cause that’s what I do with the arrow trade) please sign your work, even if it’s the first arrow that you made.
-
+1 what Dylan said. :OK
-
Allyen you can join in like hawkdancer said you need to start somewhere
-
I'm back and I wouldn't miss it. Count me in for one.
-
Ok guys you talked me into it : ) what are the rules exactly? Does it need to be made from scratch
-
I am in. I have a bunch of arrow material just waiting to become arrows.
-
Allyn, don't just take an arrow out of your quiver and send it off. Try to make one from scratch if you have the materials. If you don't go on Trading Post and see if you can get what you need. Arrows are as important if not more so than bows in the combo so learning about arrows will help you out with your information addiction. ;)
-
Allyn,
Pm me your address, I will send a few shafts if you need them.
Hawkdancer
-
So to clarify my question, does the shaft have to be made from scratch or could I get a shaft and then do everything else? I appreciate that hawk but I have wood laying around I just don't know how well I could turn out a shaft so if it doesn't work my backup plan would be get a shaft so I can finish it
-
If you have shafts just make the arrow from that. You don't have to make shafts unless you want to.
-
Ok thanks pat that's what I was wondering
-
Allyn,
I will have my arrow making plunder at MoJam, we can sit down and have fun, if you like. I am no expert, though!
Hawkdancer
-
I love to learn and doing is the best method so I'm down hawkdancer
-
I'll draw names next Saturday or Sunday
-
I'll be drawing names tomorrow.
-
:OK
-
Looking forward to the selection!

-
Wow that's fast
-
alrighty off to the races ;D
Wow that's fast
don't worry to much about it Allyn arrows are pretty simple once you've got a feel for them, post a build thread if you need to and lots of guys here will help you along ;)
-
I'm already sweating and I haven't even started yet lol
-
Don't worry about it allyn. All you can do is your best! ;D I wasn't thrilled with the arrow I sent pat b last year.
-
Guess I know what I will be working on at MoJam! Along with the bow, and some shooting and sweltering! >:D :BB :BB (SH). now, to learn how to access the camera roll so I can post pictures with the new laptop, finally got past the security block!
Hawkdancer
-
How's everyone's arrows coming along?
I got a obsidian point made and a wild rose shaft about ready to put feathers and the point on.
-
Here's where I am now. After the initial straightening of 5 shafts, 2 hill cane and 3 sourwood shoots. I have another arrow project I'll be working on also so I figured I'd work on these 5 and see what I come up with for the arrow trade and the other project.

I got yours done Rob.... just need an address :)
-
I got an arrow headed your way Eddie!! Hope ya like it.
-
got a shaft picked out and straightened(sort of), got to decide what type point it will get, and fletching, marking and signing!
Hawkdancerl
-
Jesus how are you guys done already?!
-
Always have a few arrows being worked on, staves in different stages etc.
-
How's everyone coming along with their arrows.
-
Not all of these are for the Arrow Trade but at least one is...
-
Mine is in the "waiting for this weekend" phase so hawkdancer can guide my hands
-
Pat those are nice some nice looking arrows
-
Nice arrows Pat really like the one in the middle.
I have been really busy with wheat harvest and farming.
I’m not getting any spare time right now, but I promise I will get a arrow made and it will be a nice one.
Please bare with me if it takes awhile
Bjrogg
-
Bjrogg I believe you are sending to me so don't worry about it at all I'm in no hurry. I'm just going to hang it on the wall and tell people I made it ;D
-
I'm about halfway finished. My house is like a BnB right now. Parnell is up here now, BonePile a few weeks ago another friend coming up on Monday and one this weekend.
-
I'm just now getting back into things. Been way to long. Looks like I just missed this year. 🙂
DBar
-
My son and I will be at summer camp for Scouts all next week I might take everything along to finish it don't know how much time I'll have at camp.
-
It has been to long Dbar. So glad to see you here again.
Really been missing you. You and those fine Dbar arrows. Mighty fine.
Bjrogg
-
I got a white pine shaft planed and sanded today, it came out much better then the poplar ones I tried first (lol) now I just need to make some arrowheads and fletch it up.
Pat is that one of my trade points I see there?
-
Yes it is, Dylan. Good eye. :OK
-
Yes it is, Dylan. Good eye. :OK
;D I thought I recognized it.
-
I got one, fine looking arrow from Justin Snyder. Thank you, Justin. And I have mine finished. Just have to get it to the Post Office.
-
Justin Snyder? Haven't seen Justin around here for a while. Do you mean Jake? ;)
-
Got a red osier dogwood shaft mocked and sinew wrapped, just got back from MoJam last night, have to finish unloading, old dog has to go to vet, have to check garden, mow, water, do laundry, make dinner, kiss wife, pet other dogs, and decide what point to put on shaft, then decorate, seal, and ship! No problem! (lol) >:D. No little arrow smith emoji, either!
Hawkdancer
-
Justin Snyder? Haven't seen Justin around here for a while. Do you mean Jake? ;)
Yep it was me ;D
-
Jake I received a PM from Allen. He is bowing out of the arrow trade and asked me to send the arrow I’m supposed to send to him to you instead. I have been really busy but I promise to get you a arrow. If I get a chance I might try to do a bit of a build along as I do it.
I probably wouldn’t have joined in the trade if I had know how busy I was going to be. Usually I get a little break before wheat harvest but that didn’t happen and I’m still hustling around and staying busy.
Bjrogg
PS I sent rob a pm running this by him. I’m thinking he will be ok with this
-
Yea, Pat, I meant Jake. Sorry about that, Jake.
-
Does anybody have Stix's address? I got an email from him that didn't have an address.
-
Sounds good bjrogg. Can't wait to see it
-
Sounds good bjrogg. Can't wait to see it
Hopefully you don’t have to wait to long Jake
Bjrogg
-
Mullet, I sent ya a pm last night
-
I'll have it in the mail this morning, Mike.
-
Cant wait....
-
My son and I just got back from Boy Scout camp. How's everyone doing on their arrows?
-
Mine's ready to pack up and ship early next week.
-
I worked on mine today. Even started a little build along. Unfortunately I posted it in the campfire section instead of the arrow section. Maybe Pat can move it
Bjrogg
-
Got a trade point ready mount, and the Fletches ready, then decorating, signing and sealing - then shipping.
Hawkdancer
-
You guy's gott'a get some progress pics up! Can't wait anymore!!! Pat has got some shooters posted and looking good!, Bj has a hell of an "Arrow build along" posted...Arm Chair Bowyer needs some Arrow pics! ;D
Don
-
i got my shaft made and a start on my point but i wasn't happy with the feathers i still have on hand so i'm waiting on some new ones to arrive so i can finish.
-
I have to get the feathers on then I'm ready to ship.
-
I've got mine packed up and ready to ship as soon as I get to town.
-
Got the major parts together! Tried a single bevel trade point, will try to post a picture later!
Hawkdancer
-
Thanx Eddie, I love it!
-
Nice arrow Mike. I see a blue theme going there. Nice point to. Somebody is going to be happy with that one.
Bjrogg
-
Bj, that one is mine from mullet... i will be shipping thursday
-
Always glad when they make it in one piece Glad you like it, Mike.
-
Sorry Stix I didn’t catch that first time. I guess you must be the happy one. Nice arrow Eddie.
Bjrogg
PS I got all the fletch on. Mine is pretty close to done.
-
Dylan,
I think you got me, please post some pics, I'm having a bit of trouble in that area. Thanks,
Hawkdancer
-
Thanks, Brian.
-
My arrow trade went out to Boomhowzer today. Expected delivery next Monday. :OK
-
Mine will be going out Saturday
-
Didnt have time to ship today, but tomorrow it will be headed to Trapper Rob
-
some pics hopefully i can get'er done and out the door tomorrow.
point is just dry fitted here.
fletchings are gluing on now
(https://i.imgur.com/CTsg9wt.jpg)
-
Got the bevel ground, thanks to Mr. Lansky, and about 2 hours for grinding! I need to decide on sinew for hard use or pretty thread for wall hanging, but either way, I need to sharpen my wrapping/whipping skills. Anybody use serving thread to secure the point after setting with glue? Also, still have to fletch - but should be able to ship early next week!
Hawkdancer
-
Got mine about finished. Hopefully send out today or tomorrow.
Bjrogg
-
Shipped, headed fer Pennsylvania
-
Good looking arrows, guys. :OK (SH)
-
A lot of nice looking arrows going out
-
Who hasn't shipped yet?
Mine should be there by Friday.
When I get mine I need to get my daughter to email Patrick pic's of the point from P.I.T.H and from the arrow trade.
-
This is the arrow I'm sending to BJRogg.
Inspired by Southern Plains type arrows:
red osier main shaft with painted grooves and drilled out socket for foreshaft, red oak foreshaft with heat treated chert point (Washita type), bison sinew wrappings, pheasant wing fletching. 54# spine @ 24" span, 23" draw to the joint with the foreshaft, 31-7/8" total length, and 438 grains total weight. Paints and dyes are modern alcohol-based. Hafting glue is modern hot melt. Light application of chicken fat as sealer on shaft.
-
Sweet Patrick. Can’t wait to see it and hold it in my hands. Give it a spin.
Rob I still didn’t get mailed. I’m done with arrow but still need to pack and send out.
Bjrogg
-
Its an arrow trade miracle. I received my arrows (yes, there was an extra one in there) from PatB the same day I shipped my arrow to dylanholderman. But I'm not going to post a picture of it and ruin the surprise!
-
Pat is the best and always sends extra cool stuff
-
I have some of Pat's arrows they are nice.
-
I still need to ship but it’ll have to be Monday or Tuesday when I get to the post office.
I ended up out of town for the week but all I have left to do is put my signature on it and it’s ready to go.
-
I think I need Jake’s address. Sent you a pm Jake
Bjrogg
-
Got some of the marks and decorations but I don't think I am satisfied with the cresting! I must have used a right handed brush and paint! >:D (lol) :fp
Hawkdancer
-
I still need Jake’s address. I went to post office today to send out point for PITH.
I couldn’t send trade arrow yet because I don’t have address.
Jake please send me a PM and your address
Bjrogg
-
Brian I'll try to call him
-
Thanks Rob
-
I received an arrow from Rob yesterday. It has a beautiful knapped point and it is fletched with turkey tail feathers.
I ended up working much more than I had planned the last couple of weeks. Yesterday was my 14th day in a row of working and many of those days were long days away from home. I will get my arrow finished up this weekend. I have a hand planed Sitka spruce shaft that will be tipped with a trade point I made out of a band saw blade. It will be fletched with turkey feathers. Everything just needs to be assembled this weekend.
Below are pictures of the arrow I received from Rob.
-
Got to re work the cresting and seal the shaft - red osier dogwood, turkey fletching, custom made single bevel trade point, my markings. I need JackCrafty's address for shipping, though.
Hawkdancer
-
Got home to a package from Patrick waiting for me.
Beauty of a arrow Patrick. That is a deadly weapon for sure. It will go with my other PA arrows. Sure looks like it should be hunting though.
Bjrogg
-
Thanks, Brian. Glad it arrived in one piece. ;D
-
Got mine sent out. Hopefully it gets there ok Jake. I never sent one with a display stand before so hopefully I got it packed good enough.
Sorry it took me so long.
And I forgot to include my note
Bjrogg
-
Will everyone post pics of their received arrows? We can start another thread if necessary. :OK
-
Did everyone ship
-
I should be able to ship by Saturday or Monday. Got a couple of things to finish yet - Then get it together to ship.
Hawkdancer
-
Got the arrow today. Looks awesome! However it did not survive the mail in 1 piece. >:(
-
Too bad, Jake. How was it packaged?
-
In a cardboard box with newspaper around it. Not sure if the mail men were just rough on it or what
-
Dang sorry about that Jake. I usually send them in a pvc tube. I didn’t know how to put the driftwood in tube though. I decided to send it in the same box Patrick sent me . I knew I should have just sent the arrow.
If you send it back to me I will make you another. Really just the point. You could cut shaft I don’t need it but I could save a lot of work if I could save the point.
If not I’ll probably just make you another one anyway. Might take a bit though. Second thought just keep the point.
Bjrogg
-
Thanks bj. No problem I'll just haft the point on myself. Awesome arrow though!! I love the paint scheme!
-
Well, after working a stretch of 16 days in a row and then being g quarantined all last week I finally made it to the post office today. My trade arrow is on it's way. Sorry it took me so long.
-
I got a nice arrow from stixnstones today.
-
I lied! (lol). Checked the finish yesterday and it was still curing. Had to work today and tomorrow so it will be Wednesday before I ship, at least. Got a nifty tube to ship in, though!
Hawkdancer
-
Ta! Da! I shipped to JackCrafty aka Patrick Blank, this morning, ETA is Monday, 23 Aug.
Hawkdancer
-
So glad it finally got to your door Rob...
-
Stixnstones it was worth the wait
-
Got a very nice arrow from Dylan Holderman yesterday after I shipped my arrow to Jack Crafty. Dylan posted some pictures. I think I will make copies of the trade point!
Hawkdancer
-
Dylan,
Do you have a pattern for that point? I would like a copy.
Hawkdancer
-
I received my arrow from Swampman. Thanks bud. Not sure of the arrow material but looks like Sitka spruce or POC. This arrow will be a welcomed addition to my collection. :OK Here are a few pics...

Pat, that is Sitka spruce. It came from a chunk of Sitka spruce that I was lucky enough to win from a give away that the previous sponsor of the arrow section held. I ended up getting about 80 shafts hand planed from that chunk of Sitka spruce.
-
Yes, I remember that. It surely makes it that much more special. Thanks again. :OK
-
Since I cant seem to remember to shoot some photos of my arrow during the day ( I have forgotten every day for a week) I'm just going to post night photos. ;D
Here's the arrow that I got from HawkDancer (Jerry). Very cool arrow. )P( )P(
