What should be the brace height on a 68” recurve?
-
I start with all my bows using my fistmele and adjust from there. If you don't know...fistmele is a thumbs up with the heal of your hand on the handle on the belly side. Basically all you really want is for the fletching of your arrows to clear the riser.
-
I take that to mean all bows (longbows, recurves, etc) basically have the same brace height. Design does not matter. Is that correct?
-
I think the simplest answer is the height that shoots the best without slapping the wrist regardless of design.
-
Sounds logical. Thanks.

Every bow and every shooter has an optimum brace height. My fistmele is my starting point.
-
For me it is 6 to 6 ,and one quarter on most of my bows.
-
For me it's 5.5" from the belly of the handle.Good consistent arrow flight is gotten there for me from a 28" draw.Tune those arrows right and you won't need much fletching.4" long is all I use.

The current brace height is 7 1/2” which seems too much. The string is 57 1/2” long and no matter how much I try to untwist it, the length does not change. It is a Flemish twist from Shatterproof Archery. What am I doing wrong?

If you can't really untwist it anymore it sounds like the string is just too short.

Make your own strings with a loop at the top and a bowyers knot on the bottom. These strings are one size fits all so to speak and can be adjusted not only by twisting but also re-tying the knot to the appropriate length.

Great suggestion PatB. Will do. Thanks.
